5 Friends Who Were More Annoying Than You Remember

original Pokemon Anime is beloved for many reasons, one element being the cast. Ash Ketchum and his Pikachu are anime's most iconic heroes, and during their journey, they meet all kinds of trainers. Many of these people, trainers or otherwise, would also travel with Ash and become his lifelong friends.

However, there were some traveling companions, whether they were around for most of the season or only traveled with Ash for a short time, that weren't as beloved as the other characters. In fact, although these characters are good-natured, they can often get angry. Some of these characters lose these annoying lines, though unfortunately, that's not always the case.

Brock's Sudowoodo can be as clingy as Bonsli

As the rock-type developed it became much quieter

Bonsly, a baby Pokémon introduced in Generation IV, is not actually a grass-type. The Bonsai Pokemon is a mischievous Rock-type whose appearance resembles that of a plant. However, if one tries to pour water on this “tree”, it will run away. After evolving, Bonsly will transform into Sudowoodo, the Imitation Pokémon. Sudowoodo does not like to fight, so it tries to look like a tree as much as possible to avoid battle.

In the Kanto region, Brock found a bonsli alone, crying because it was hungry and had no one around to care for it. As such, Brock took on the role of Bonsly's caretaker, also his only friend upon arriving in Sinnoh. As a child, Bonsli was very needy and often cried, although his flexible behavior could certainly be stressful at times. Thankfully, the Rock-type relaxed a lot as it evolved, and even acted as an older sibling, much to Brock's delight.

Many fans criticize Chloe's overall lack of character development

Chloe was starting to gain confidence thanks to Eevee

Like Serena and May before her, Chloe is introduced as someone unsure of what she wants to do in life. However, unlike her predecessors, Chloe initially tried to keep only a realistic mindset, which made her come across as aloof or cold. It was also shown that, in the past, Chloe did not particularly like Pokémon. In fact, she was unkind to her family's Yamper when it was first adopted, though Chloe came to regret these actions after the Pokémon dog escaped.

Chloe began to come out of her shell for good, thanks to an Eevee that confused Pokemon researchers, as she would not evolve. With Eevee as her partner Pokémon, Chloe was able to become a true trainer, and even began a career as a Pokémon artist. Overall, Chloe has received mixed reviews among fans, as many find it disturbing that she did not receive much character development. Although her personality was rather depressing at the beginning of her debut, Chloe later became a very relaxed and friendly person.

Max can be quite the know-it-all

May's brother often criticizes coaches despite not having one

Unlike his sister, who felt great pressure from others to become a trainer like his father, Max dreams of the day he begins his trainer journey. To prepare for the day he becomes old enough to become a trainer, Max spends a good deal of his time reading anything he can find about Pokémon. Due to his book-smarts, Max knows a lot about Pokémon as well as battle tactics, though only in theory rather than actual practice. He gets a chance to learn more about Pokémon thanks to May, who takes his place of his parents during his adventures.

Max is a kind boy, but unfortunately he can be very snobbish about what he learns. In fact, he will even criticize Ash about his choices during the battle, even though Max has yet to become a trainer. Despite this behavior, Max really looks up to Ash and is one of his sister's biggest supporters. Brock also acted as a mentor of sorts for Max, teaching him more about the real-world experiences of Pokémon.

Barry always runs into everything

This antagonistic character is legendary for his impatience

Barry in the Pokemon anime

in Pokemon Diamond, Pokemon Pearland Pokemon PlatinumThe player character is quickly introduced to the rowdy boy next door who dreams of becoming a trainer. That boy is Barry, the player character's future rival, who is often mentioned by non-player characters as impatient and unable to keep quiet. One of Barry's famous sayings is that he will “fix” someone if they arrive later than him at another destination. Part of why he wants to be a trainer so badly is because his father, Palmer, is one of Sinnoh's frontier minds.

As seen in the anime, Barry maintains the same personality in the games, although he is somehow more hyperactive. The energetic young trainer is not only one of Ash's rivals in the Sinnoh Realm, but also a small traveling companion as seen briefly. However, Barry's anime counterpart is more impatient and short-tempered, easily angered by the smallest things. His behavior can be so out of order that his fellow Pokémon, Empoleon, is often shown to be embarrassed by its trainer.

Goh doesn't consider the importance of friendship with Pokemon

A trainer who cares more about catching than actually training

Often regarded as a character by fans and critics alike Pokémon GOPokemon Trainer Goh acts as a secondary protagonist Pokemon Journey: The Series. While Ashley dreams of becoming a Pokemon Master, Goh's dreams focus less on his experience as a fighter and more on what Pokemon he can catch. In fact, Goh dreams of catching all known Pokemon in the world. His grand dream, apart from completing the national Pokédex, is to catch the legendary Pokémon Mew and make it his companion Pokémon.

While completing the National Pokédex is an incredible goal, Goh overlooks the importance of becoming good friends with the Pokémon he catches. In fact, early on, he's so adamant about catching Mew first that he hurts Scorby's feelings for wanting to be his first partner Pokemon. Although Goh later agreed to do so, Cinderess, along with a couple of other Pokémon, would be the only members of his large roster that Goh took the time to get to know. In comparison, Ash, who wasn't so focused on completing his Pokédex, took the time to get to know each Pokémon he caught, earning fans and respect from trainers and other characters alike.
