Since it debuted alongside Venusaur and Blastoise, Charizard has become not only one of the most popular known starter Pokemon, but one of the most famous Pokemon. Charizard is noted for its sheer power, as well as being one of the first Fire/Flying-type Pokemon along with the legendary Pokemon Moltres. Flame Pokemon also have various Mega Evolutions, including a fiery Gigantamax form.
However, there are various other fully-evolved Pokemon that have a great chance of defeating Charizard in battle. For example, Water/Ground-type Swampert has a great type advantage that can threaten Charizard. Meanwhile, the Steel/Psychic-type Metagross, although it's weak to fire, has amazing defense and great Mega Evolution.
Blaziken is a beloved story from Hoenn
Blaziken comes from humble beginnings
Torchic is an adorable Fire-type starter originating from the Hoenn region, and the Pokédex describes it as a fluffy, sweet-natured Pokemon that loves to be wherever its trainer is. Although it walks with unsteady steps as Torchic, the Fire-type will later strengthen its legs through its evolutions, Combusken and Blaziken. The first known fully-evolved Fire/Fighting-type, Blaziken created a legacy of other Fire/Fighting-type starter Pokémon, followed by Infernape and Amboar. However, Blaziken is truly in a class of its own.
Blaziken's legs are so strong that it can leap over tall buildings, and it created the powerful move, Blaze Kick. It also has the ability to Mega Evolve into Mega Blaziken, during which its stats are greatly increased. Since Charizard is a Flying-type, Blaziken will unfortunately be weak to its Flying-type attacks, nor will its Fighting-type moves do much damage. However, Mega Blaziken has a speed boost ability, allowing it to become much faster per turn. Blaziken can also learn moves like Thunder Punch and Stone Edge, and with the power of the Speed Boost ability, it can easily overcome its type's disadvantage and win matches against Flame Pokemon.
Swampert has a huge advantage

Along with Blaziken and Sceptile, Swampert is one of the fully evolved starter Pokemon from the Hoenn region. Even as Mudkip, the Water/Ground-type has always been a thoughtful Pokemon, and extremely in-tune with even the most subtle changes in weather. It is capable of carrying heavy objects while swimming with ease, and can see through even the most murky waters. Swamps are very rare in the wild, although they are known to inhabit the beaches of the Hoenn region.
Since it is ground-type and often uses this type of moves, these attacks do not affect Fire/Flying-type Charizard. However, Swampert can easily rely on its super-effective Water-type moves, or even doubly super-effective Rock-type moves. On Mega Evolving, Mega Swampert will have increased defense, along with better physical attack stats. Even though the Flame Pokemon is Mega Evolved, such a powerful Pokemon is sure to be a threat to Charizard.

Dragon/Flying-type is resistant to fire
Bagon is a rare Dragon-type Pokémon from the Hoenn region, usually found in caves. These spirited Pokemon will often jump off cliffs in an attempt to fly, a dream come true. After evolving into Shelgon, this adorable Pokemon will evolve into Salamence, a Dragon/Flying-type Pokemon. According to some, Salamence's desire as a Bagon was so powerful that it changed many of its cells, granting the Dragon Pokémon its heart's desire. Salamence, although it is very hot, is also very happy to be able to fly, and can happily breathe fire when flying through the air.
Zinnia, a powerful Pokemon trainer introduced in the Delta episode Pokemon Omega Ruby and Pokemon Alpha SapphireHe is hailed as an ace Pokémon. His story is further explained in “The Wish”. Pokemon Evolution episode, where she repeats her actions from the games and tries to summon Rayquaza to save Hoen. However, the Lorekeeper makes peace with the fact that May is the chosen hero, even as she battles the new champion and her team. Zinnia's Salamence is already an exceptionally powerful creature, though much of its aura has been shown to change in Mega Evolution. Being a Dragon/Flying-type, Salamence is resistant to both Fire-type and Flying-type moves of Charizard, and can learn various Rock-type and Electric-type moves. With all of these elements, plus its well-rounded stats in Mega Evolving, Mega Salamance can be a very tough opponent for Charizard.
Garchomp has an unforgettable legacy
Garchomp just got a new mega evolution
Many years ago, a young girl was tasked with caring for a Pokémon egg, which later hatched into a female Gible. Becoming her first Pokémon, Katie and her Gible traveled to the Sinnoh region and grew alongside each other, making new friends and even teammates over the years. In the present day, Gible is now a fearsome Garchamp, never seen without his trainer and childhood friend, Cynthia. Champion of the Sinnoh region, Cynthia is notorious for having a team of rare and terrifyingly powerful Pokémon, with Mach Pokémon serving as the crown jewel of her roster.
Although Ground-type moves do not affect Charizard, Garchamp, being a Dragon/Ground-type is very resistant to Fire-type moves. Like Salamence and Dragonite, Garchomp is known as a “pseudo-legendary” Pokemon by fans due to its impressive battle stats, and is a true force (especially if Garchomp is fighting Cynthia's). Aside from knowing more Rock-type moves, Garchomp would become even scarier after evolving into Mega Garchomp and Mega Garchomp Z, though the latter was not seen in the anime. After all, it's a Pokemon that moves fast and hits hard, and can beat a Charizard pretty well.

Metagross is swift and has an amazing mega evolution
Another popular Pokémon from the Hoenn region, Metagross, was a surprising asset to Steven Stone's team at the start of Generation III, as the Pokémon could not be found in the wild. The only way a player can get their own Metagross is after they become Hoen Champion, and they will receive Beldom later as a gift. After Beldom is evolved into Metang, the Steel/Psychic-type will later evolve into Metagross at level 45. Metagross, although it is weak to Fire-type moves that Charizard usually relies on, has many other qualities that still allow it to win battles.
The Iron Leg Pokemon has excellent battle stats with a base attack stat of 135 and a defense stat of 130. Meanwhile, it can also learn moves that allow it to avoid and counter powerful attacks such as Iron Defense. Mega Metagross, as seen in the anime and games, has amazing stamina, and some of the best battle stats among Mega Evolved Pokemon. Along with these useful abilities, along with moves like Stone Edge and Meteor Beam, a Metagross, especially a Mega Metagross, can very well still beat a Charizard if it's a Steel-type.

Dragonite's new Mega Evolution adds to its amazing power
The first known fully-evolved pseudo-legendary Pokémon, Dragonite is a tough Pokémon with a big heart. Starting life as Dratini and then Dragonair, Dragon Pokémon have amazing base stats including high special attacks and high defense. Dragonite has incredible strength, allowing it to fly across stormy seas without breaking a sweat. As it takes flight, the Dragonite has also been known to locate and rescue sailors struggling against fierce waves before sinking.
To add to the sheer power of Dragonite, the Dragon Pokémon has recently received a Mega Evolution, becoming Mega Dragonite. The Dragon/Flying-type is now more compassionate in this state, defeating opponents quickly as it takes kindly to this action. A new Mega Evolution debuted in 2015 Pokemon Horizons: The SeriesAnd it was shown to be able to easily use intense moves such as Hyper Beam using a bead on its tail. With its normal strength and its Mega Evolve state, along with its massive movepool, Dragonite is sure to be a challenge for Charizard.
Tyranitar is an absolute powerhouse Pokemon
Charizard is unfortunately very weak against Rock-types
Fans of both the Zohoto region and pseudo-legendary Pokémon will likely find Tyranitar to be one of their all-time favorite Pokémon. A full-evolved form of Larvitar and Pupitar, Tyranitar starts out as a Rock/Ground-type but becomes a Rock/Dark-type Pokemon instead. As such, it is not suitable for battles against Fighting-type Pokémon, and may not do well against Water-type or Grass-type Pokémon. However, it is very strong against Fire-type and Flying-type Pokemon, making it a devastating opponent against Fire/Flying-type Pokemon like Charizard.
Tyranitar already has amazing stats, though they definitely increase as they evolve into Mega Tyranitar. Only an experienced trainer should dare to Mega Evolve their Tyranitar, as species known for their aggressive nature often become more ferocious after Mega Tyranitar. In fact, some are unsure if Mega Tyranitar can even listen to its trainer, as it focuses on combat and nothing else. Such a powerhouse Pokemon, especially one with terrifying power and an abundance of Rock-type moves, is sure to be able to defeat Charizard.
