80 percent of Japan's 100 best-selling games were on Nintendo consoles

Nintendo's dominance in Japan knows no bounds. Two weeks ago, Japanese magazine Famitsu released its findings on the top ten best-selling physical games in the country for 2025, with Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 games taking seven spots.

Now, the magazine has expanded its findings from the top ten to the top 100, and, perhaps surprisingly, Nintendo software is still dominant.

In the latest edition of Famitsu (and transcribed on the Install Base forum), the magazine counted down the top 100 best-selling physical games in Japan last year, and Nintendo rioted.

Of the top 100, 64 physical games were sold on Nintendo Switch, another 16 on Switch 2. The chart tracks individual SKUs, so some games like Pokemon Legends: ZA appear twice, but that's a great indication of how well the company is doing in its home country.

15 out of 19 games we looked at 80-99 percent of players lost last year.

41 of the top 50 come from Nintendo, Monster Hunter Wilds, Ghost of Yotei, Dragon Quest 1 and 2 HD-2D remake, Dynasty Warriors: Origins, Death Stranding 2, Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, Metal Gear Solid Delta, Esna Hill, Elenke, and Silden. Nightreign's PS5 versions take the other nine spots.

One PS4 game, Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii at 55, made the charts, and surprisingly, given the hardware's poor uptake in the country, no Xbox games made the list.
