Final Fantasy 7 Remake It was one of the boldest remakes ever when it released in 2020. The name is a bit misleading, as it is more than one sequel. Remake of the original PS1 version Final Fantasy 7But to say anything else would be a spoiler.
2019 edition of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Also a good example of a bold remake. As great as it is when developers take huge risks when remaking a classic game, others err on the side of caution to please their longtime fans. These are among the next games Great remakes that don't necessarily add or try a lot of new things, but they're still fun games.
The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening (2019)
Toys for life
The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening Originally released for the Game Boy in 1993. In addition to the color enhancements, the 2019 version was the first major remake of the game, and it changed the art style to give it a toy-like aesthetic.
It's a great visual style, but beyond the graphical upgrade, it's still the exact same world and gameplay. A classic top-down Zelda Will never get old, so it's understandable why things weren't touched up much for this remake.
How exciting
Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater Originally released in 2004 for the PS2 and several versions followed, including a 3D version on the 3DS. Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is a complete graphical remake that adds some quality-of-life changes to make the gameplay feel more modern, from sneaking around the forest to shooting enemies.
However, most of the audio is reused in cutscenes and codec calls, so the story doesn't change at all. The original plot follows the same beats, only with more stunning visuals, and even though the original director, Hideo Kojima, isn't involved, that's not a bad thing. It was a great game in 2004, and it still is today.
Final Fantasy 4 (DS Remake)
Now with more sounds
Most of the time final fantasy Remake games play it closer to the source material, ie A remake of the DS Final Fantasy 4. That fidelity isn't a bad thing, because it's nice to see all the Pixel models in full, no matter how cute, 3D graphics. Also, voice acting was added to make the story more dramatic.
The turn-based battles and story beats are almost one-to-one translations, but they're a bit easier than the SNES version, which was released in 2008 as a 1991 remake.
Resident Evil 4
Can't remake perfection
Capcom made the wise decision to remake the second and third RE before the game Resident Evil 4. As with PS1 games, they need more work to feel modern, though Resident Evil 4Thanks to countless remasters, it already feels modern.
The gunplay and controls are probably more solid in the 2023 version as opposed to the 2005 original, but for the most part the game takes no chances to surprise players. The biggest difference is a little extra exploration on the boat, but other than that, Capcom knew it didn't have to try too hard to recreate perfection.
Super Mario RPG
Turn-based platforming
Super Mario RPG: The Story of the Seven Stars Mario was the first RPG spinoff, released in 1996 for the SNES. In 2023, it received a Switch remake called Simple. Super Mario RPG.
There are a few additions, like team attacks and new difficulty settings, but otherwise, it's the same journey as it was back in '96. The guides that worked then probably work in the remake as well, but despite the lack of twists, fans were happy to get their hands on it again.
Shadow of the Colossus
Rush a ghostly boss
Shadow of the Colossus In 2005 there was a late-gen PS2 game that redefined the action-adventure genre. Instead of exploring an open world to fight hundreds of enemies, players just had to take on sixteen giants called colossi roaming the earth.
The game got a decent remaster in 2011, and then the 2018 remake was like the cherry on top. Fans were hopeful that the remake would add the lost colossi to the campaign, or answer some lingering mysteries of the original. It didn't, but the original experience didn't diminish either, and at the end of the day, that's what matters most.
Reload Personality 3
Become a member of SEES
Personality 3 It was the first game in the series to introduce the concept of social links. First released in Japan, this turn-based PS2 game debuted in North America in 2007. These school-life side quests allow players to get to know their party members better, as well as side characters who can help in their own way.
In addition to a litany of quality-of-life changes and additions to improve narrative flow, Reload Personality 3 2024 has been reworked to fit the new gaming generation, and it succeeds in that regard. One change fans were a bit unhappy about was that the Aegis campaign was later released as paid DLC.
Demon spirits
A stellar launch game for the PS5
Demon spirits Earned itself a small cult following after its PS3 release in 2009. The difficult gameplay difficulty and mysterious dark fantasy world attracted players, and the game eventually blossomed into the wildly popular Soulslike genre. Demon spirits Back in 2020 with a full remake from Bluepoint Games, the same developer that made the remake Shadow of the ColossusAnd for better or worse, the game was still almost impossible to beat thanks to its challenge level.
Bluepoint Games excels in the remake biz, though they generally don't add much to the experiences they're working on, other than visual touch-ups. Now, if only Sony would let Bluepoint remake the games blood borne.
