sadness A strange and difficult game. It has some mechanics and systems that it shares with other survival titles, but there are some unique to Misery, including its environment and presentation.
You can spend hours figuring out what to do or how to progress in your bunker. That's why we've gathered some helpful tips that go in-depth with some of the mechanics, explain the gameplay loop, and give advice on how to survive. In the following lines, you will read some tips that have often come to life after suffering and dying.
Understanding the game loop
The tutorial in Misery is solid, you know how the main game mechanics work, in a simple and understandable way. However, when you join a server or host your own, You may be confused as to what a game loop actually is.
For your first hour, we recommend Hosting your own server, closed to other people's accessAnd start your exploration. You always start in a bunker, and you need to prepare more or less what you want to carry. Once ready, you exit your bunker, go through the courtyard, open the door, and begin the campaign. What you see on the other side of the door is procedurally generatedSo the land will always have a different layout.
You have limited time to explore, but you can't check it out. Just keep your ears sharp, because when you start hearing sirens, time is running out. Then, the screen will slowly light up, and you'll fall to your knees as it turns completely white.
In each campaign, You need to explore, find items and resources, and bring them back to your bunker. If you die outside of it, you'll lose everything you're carrying. You can return to your bunker more than once during a campaign, so it's a good idea to return as soon as you find something useful. Campaigns resume after the explosions stopAnd you will have to wait for the land inside your bunker to reset.
Don't forget where your bunker is
Suffering doesn't give a mapSo it's easy to get lost and not know how to get back to your bunker. The problem is, if you don't come back before the reset starts, you'll die and lose everything.
So we recommend Taking a screenshot or noting how your screen looks when you come out of the bunker. Look for signs and any points of interest that will serve as a reference when you need to return.
You have a compass that you can always check, but it's not as helpful as it could be. Still, it's better than nothing.
Expand your bunker
Okay, so you bring back resources and content, you know what? The first thing you should do is expand your bunker. We have a specific how-to guide here, but basically you need to find or craft a sledgehammer. Expanding your bunker is important because it will allow you to create and place more equipment which will gradually increase what you can do and the resources you can produce yourself.
Improving your bunker is the main way to progress in the dungeonAnd how well equipped you are will affect how your campaigns go (for example, protection against radiation, and weapons) and how long you can survive there.
Build one of each crafting table
Your bunker starts with a crafting bench, but you can expand your crafting recipes by building other devices: An advanced craft bench (Iron Bar x20, Scrap x20, Wood x20, Electronics x20), sewing machine (Wood x10, Scrap x10, Iron Bar x2), and A chemical table (Iron Bar x20, Wood x30, Glass x15, Electronics x10).
You may not be able to build these tools after a few campaigns, but once you start expanding your bunker, This is the second objective that you should set in your mind. All the options they unlock will change how you play the game.
Don't mess with animals at first
while exploring, You will see deer and wild boars. The former won't bother you, however, if you don't attack them The latter will start messing with you if you get too close. We recommend you don't engage any of them unless you have a gun, as melee weapons are not as effective, and You can easily die without armor.
If a wild boar sees you, turn around and start running. Don't try to fight – you won't win. And please, don't enter any of the buildings; You will be trapped.
Ultimately, you want to hunt these animals because They give you food and resources for crafting Many things, mainly clothes.
Also, you should avoid NPCs in the game, even if they don't seem harmful.
Portals are good, but they take health
One of the first things you'll see in places where there are buildings large areas – Not the contractions and expansions, which harm you, but which are stable. These teleports take you places around or other areas, and you should always use them because they can lead you to a Place with good loot.
However, do not use them when your health is weak. Each time you use one, You will lose a small percentageAnd if you are very low on health it can take your life. It is better to return to them in the next campaign.
Having a garden with crops
When you die for the first time, you'll notice that Your statistics will not refill automatically. In fact, they never do that on their own. You need to consume items that will restore your lost health points and remaining stats. There is always a way to do something about it Build your backyard.
To do that, you need to plant seeds and have a sustainable food storage system. Here is a guide on how to grow crops.
Check all your statistics
At all times, you will see four statistics on the bottom left side of the screen
- Health
- Energy
- Radiation
- insanity
These are probably the most important statistics, and the ones you need to pay attention to. Energy is your stamina, and lets you sprint and move. Radiation and insanity will weaken your health or automatically kill you if they reach high levels.
but, There are two additional statistics that you can only see if you open your inventory. These are hunger and thirst. They are not always present because they are not as important as the previous ones, but if you do not check them from time to time, you will be in trouble. Lower levels of hunger and thirst Gradually your health and your energy will be disturbed.
Always carry some food and drinks that have more benefits than downsides (you can check them by hovering your mouse over the items in your inventory), so you can replenish those stats.
