Grand Theft Auto 6 may release on Nintendo Switch 2, Insider suggests

Grand Theft Auto 6 may still be a year away after its most recent, and hopefully final, delay, but that hasn't stopped the rumor mill about Rockstar's next game from continuing to churn. Next up: The highly-anticipated title will launch on the Nintendo Switch 2.

Apparently, a port of another Grand Theft Auto title hasn't been ruled out, according to insider NateTheHate. In fact, according to the insider, internally, Rockstar is “testing” to see if a Switch 2 version is even possible. In addition, the company is actually “trying” to see if they can make things work on Nintendo's latest console.

The Switch 2 is more powerful than the original Switch, and already seeing release confirmations for several high-profile games leaving the first Switch console, it's not that crazy to think that Rockstar and Take-Two want to widen their cut of the pie with a Switch 2 release.

This also follows previous rumors about Take-Two wanting to support the Switch 2. In February, before the Switch 2 officially launched, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick admitted that the company has a longstanding partnership with Nintendo, which could grow.

“We've obviously had a long-standing relationship with Nintendo,” Zelnick said. “We've supported the platform when it made sense for individual releases.”

Perhaps more interestingly, he acknowledged that a changing Nintendo audience could see more support.

“There was a time when Nintendo platforms were geared towards a younger audience, which was reflected in our release schedule,” he added. “Today, with the Switch and potentially with the Switch 2, a Switch device can support any audience.”

In the past, Nintendo has seen some Rockstar support

As it stands, the much maligned GTA Trilogy Definitive Edition has a Nintendo Switch port, though the ever-popular Grand Theft Auto 5 does not. Likewise, LA Noire is also on the Switch, another Rockstar title.

Recently, it was revealed that the remaster of Red Dead Redemption will see a Switch 2 port, which will be free to those who own the original Red Dead Redemption Switch 1 version. Of course, we'll note that one of the best and arguably most underrated Grand Theft Auto titles, GTA: Chinatown Wars, was a Nintendo DS title! In other words, there is some history and familiarity that will make things more likely.
