Playstation game with perfect ending

Ends are hard to nail down in any medium. Sometimes they can be satisfying, other times they can be mysterious to set up a sequel, and more often than not, they can be frustrating for a number of reasons. Video game endings seem difficult to nail down because games last longer than other mediums.

How can developers tie together a story that players have spent dozens of hours on? Let's take a look at the history of PlayStation to see what its respective developers have done to mesmerize fans for over thirty years. Across a variety of consoles and genres, these games still have remarkable endings that are satisfying in their own way.

The last of us The protagonist Joel and Ellie travel to the United States to reach Seattle, so that Ellie can be researched and turned into a cure for humanity in this fungus-zombie world. When they get there, Joel realizes that Ellie has to die for this to work, so he kills the entire hospital staff and takes Ellie away. When she wakes up, Joel lies about the investigation not working, leaving things in a cryptic note, whether Ellie believes him or not. This ambiguity helped leave things open for a sequel, and was cool in its own way as both protagonists lived in an otherwise dangerous world.

Unknown 4: A Thief's End There's a more heartwarming ending from the same developer The last of usnaughty dog The entire game builds up to the protagonist, Nathan Drake, going on an ultimate Indiana Jones-like adventure with his friends and family. Seemingly true to his word, Nathan abandons the hunt as Anita moves on to his daughter, Cassie, waiting for her parents to return. It's a sweet ending that could set up Cassie as a future lead, or it could just end for the Drake family, who chose to settle down and bond over the treasure.

Death Stranding 2: On the Beach

Death Stranding 2: On the Beach It's a spectacle that's hard to put into words for those who haven't played it, other than to say it's very Hideo Kojima. These include Kaiju-like enemies, a giant mech, a guitar battle, a dance off, an angelic baby, and more. The most fascinating part of this finale is learning that Tomorrow is actually a bigger version of Lou, who was supposed to be dead at the beginning of the game. The hug between father and daughter, Lou and Sam, is heartwarming to say the least, and the final icing on the cake is the glimpse ahead with Lou taking on Sam as a courier.

Final Fantasy 7

Aerith returns

Final Fantasy 7 A classic JRPG build-up where a chosen party fights through myriad obstacles to save the world from human-based and mystical forces. In this case, it involves the antagonist, Sephiroth, summoning a giant meteor to crush humanity, and after several long battles, he is defeated.

The final dungeon begins to collapse, and though the heroes escape and Sephiroth is dead, the party sees a close-up of the impacting body of the meteorite. That is, until the Lifestream rises up to destroy the meteor, all thanks to the ghostly form of Aerith, who died earlier, in a triumphant moment. It's a happy ending for everyone, and it also offers a fun glimpse at humanity righting itself.

Marvel's Spider-Man

Marvel's Spider-Man Thankfully it doesn't start with an origin story, but it's a sort of origin for specific characters. The main antagonist is Doc Oak, with whom Peter develops a relationship throughout the game, leading to a climactic battle between the two. Even after learning that Peter is Spider-Man, Doc doesn't back down, and Peter has to put him in his place. He tragically loses his father figure, then Aunt May dies in the hospital. It's a dark day for Peter, but like everyone else Spider Man stories, this is a critical moment that helps build his character, however tragic, because as a hero, the duty of justice compels him to move forward no matter what.

Ghost of Tsushima

Ghost of Tsushimawho The main story is the struggle for the Japanese people of Tsushima, oppressed by Mongolian invaders. To win, the hero Jin must fight dirty and put aside his pride and honor as a samurai for victory. Although his efforts help save the island, his uncle, Lord Shimura, is displeased by Jin's lack of respect. In the end, players must face their uncle in battle and leave the family behind to start anew, whether that means giving Lord Shimura an honorable death or leaving him in disgrace to ponder his own failures as a samurai.

God of War (2018)

Year 2018 god of war The game is a reboot and sequel, shifting the story from Greek mythology to Norse mythology when Kratos starts again. Beyond the realm of battling a pantheon of new gods, the game's final journey finds Kratos and his son, Atreus, traveling up a mountain to scatter ashes. Despite the bombing, the two succeed in their journey, embrace each other, and scatter ashes in a mystical scene. As far apart as they are, this trip helped Kratos and Atreus grow closer, and it's overall a sweet way to end things.

Persona 5 Royale

Reworking The Lore

At the original end Personality 5 Satisfying in its own way, but also bittersweet, as the hero, Ren, had to move away from his new friends after defeating a divine evil in order to save Japan. Personality 5 Royal Introduced a remixed story with new characters and an ending tacked on to rewrite things.

The new ending area and antagonist help to understand the meaning of the Mementos dungeon and how the adults gained so much power through experimentation in the first place. It's a non-canon addition to the story that isn't better than the original ending, but it's worth getting the game a second time.

Shadow of the Colossus (2018)

Never trust in gods

the story of Shadow of the Colossus Simple: A young adventurer, Wander, wants to revive a woman named Mono, possibly his love interest. To revive him, the divine entities tell Wander to slay the titans roaming the world, and as players go through this harrowing process, they are rewarded with betrayal. Wander is sacrificed to the dark power of the gods, but in return, Mono gets rescued, so it's another bittersweet ending. Also, it's unclear, but Wander has a child in his place, so he may have been reincarnated, making this an even more mysterious ending. The ending is the same in the remake and the original on PS2.

Astro Bot

A nostalgia trip

Astro BotOverall, it's a celebration of PlayStation as a brand. In each level, players can rescue bots themed around thirty years of PlayStation icons, from Parappa to Amaterasu to Leon S. Kennedy and more. In End World, all these bots join the titular Astro Bot hero in a shooter segment where they use PlayStation consoles and peripherals to fight aliens. For PlayStation fans, it's truly a perfect ending to the triumph of the brand, which has been celebrated for thirty years. Astro BotReleased in 2024.
