The new season A one-punch man It didn't turn out as fans had hoped. We're only a month into its run, and season 3 of the anime is already facing massive backlash from fans and internet commentators.
Disappointments about the animation and overall quality of the season reached a boiling point, with episode 6, titled “Motley Heroes”, now standing as the worst-rated anime episode of all time on IMDb. This record was earlier in episode 11 of the promised neverland While the second season, and episode 6, initially started with high ratings, it soon dropped to an even more abysmal score.
One-Punch Man Season 3 is breaking records, just not the ones you'd expect
Episode 6 initially had a score of 3.4 when it aired. That's not great by any means, but a little more in line with how the other Season 3 episodes are performing. But things quickly began to spiral, with the rating dropping to 2.0 and then 1.6 just a few days later. of episode 11 The Promised Neverland Season 2 held the record for worst-rated anime episode with a 2.9 rating.” Motley Heroes” currently stands at 1.4 based on nearly 19,000 ratings.
Of course, fans are not happy with the direction of the series. Before the release of Episode 6, Season 3's average IMDb rating was 3.9, which is still terrible compared to Season 1's 8.7 average rating and Season 2's 8.1 average rating. Season 2 was criticized for its pacing and animation when it aired, but it never received the same response. It's clear that there have been issues with the last season, and fans are voicing their frustrations any way they can.
The series' latest episode, “Counterstrike,” isn't doing too well, currently standing at a 2.5 based on 5,100 ratings. At this rate, it is possible that one of the final episodes of the season will break the record set by episode 6. Although with nearly three times the average amount of ratings, there's a good chance people reviewed the bombshell episode 6 to jump on the hate train around the new season. So while we won't see any Season 3 episode earn below a 2.0 rating again, it's safe to assume that the rest of the season will continue to bring in exceptional scores.
Season 3 has been mired in controversy since its inception
Things didn't look good for Season 3 right off the bat. In September, fans were already up in arms over the teaser trailer. This led to Season 3 director Shinpei Nagai releasing a statement saying that Season 3 “probably won't measure up to Season 1”, which doesn't inspire much confidence in an already anxious fan base. A month later, Nagai left the social network due to harassment. Nagai and the rest of the staff in charge of season 3 have been constantly criticized for their work on the anime. While it's okay to criticize someone's work and express their displeasure with how the series is being handled, some fans have taken it too far.
Now, it sounds like A one-punch man Anime is dead in the water. Bandai Namco may see this as a profitable series, but the production quality and fan response doesn't do the franchise any good going forward. Whether or not the series gets a fourth season remains to be seen, but it's hard to imagine anything happening anytime soon. There was a gap of four years between seasons 1 and 2. It took six years to get Season 3, and now, fans may have to wait even longer if they get anything at all.
The first season of A one-punch man Aired in the Fall 2016 season. It was animated by Madhouse, with Shingo Natsume (sunny boy, Tatami Galaxy) instruction. Season 1 was praised for its animation, and fans praised how well it adapted the manga. When Jesse Staff took over for the second season, fans felt the series had taken a dip in quality. Season 2 aired in the Spring 2019 season, with Chikara Sakurai (Little Busters!, waiting in summer) instruction. Although it wasn't as well-received as Season 1, Season 2 never got close to Backlash Season 3.
Fans have openly questioned director Shinpei Nagai's ability to direct the new season, despite his work directing episodes. Psycho-pass, Gangsta.and Samurai Flamenco. The animators are being heavily criticized online, and all the talk surrounding the new season seems volatile.
It's unfortunate that fans didn't get the product they thought they deserved, and there is something going on behind the scenes that affects the product. Season 3 A one-punch man It will likely remain not only the most controversial anime of the fall 2025 season, but also one of the most polarizing anime in recent years. Hopefully, the series, the fans, and everyone who worked so hard on the current season can look forward to even better things in the future.
