with Metroid Prime 4: Beyond Released, players will guide bounty hunter Samus Aran to an alien planet to battle all kinds of aggressive wildlife, angry robots and some old enemies. For long-time fans of the franchise, you'll know the name Sylux since this rival bounty hunter first appeared in 2004.
Now you get to fight him one more time, as your first real boss battle with Sylux will be in the Vault Forge after the Flight Drone sends the MCU. Here's everything you need to know about defeating Sylux and how to get through his attacks.
How to beat Sylux
Sylux is an extremely aggressive enemy that boasts several attacks he can throw in quick succession. These attacks are:
|
attack |
Description |
|---|---|
|
Homing missiles |
Sylux will spawn six homing missiles on its body and fire them at you in sets of three. |
|
energy wave |
Sylux launches into the air and then hits the ground in front of him. This will generate a large energy wave that can be jumped over. |
|
Melee Dash |
Sylux raises his hand in front of him and quickly dashes to your last known location, swiping 180 degrees in front of him as he approaches you. |
|
shooting |
Silax fires its own cannon at the player, both while on the ground or while flying in the air. |
|
Energy Tornado |
This move is only thrown out once when Sylux has 75% of his health left. The shield will surround every part of his body but his legs, allowing him to reflect projectiles away from him. Sylux then spins around like a top, trying to crash into you. |
|
Energy bombardment |
Sylux moves to the center of the map and fires three sets of energy bombs around her in a circular fashion. Each subsequent wave of bombs will advance from Sylux's position in the middle of the room. |
When combat begins, Sylux will use homing missiles, an energy wave, a melee dash, or any combination of them shooting at you. As for homing missiles, these can be dodged either by dashing to either side before hitting them or by blasting them until they are destroyed. If he uses an Energy Wave, you can just jump over it before it hits you, and Melee Dash can be dodged by sidestepping him as he dashes towards you.
During this time V. You just want to focus on shooting Sylux and taking as little damage as possible. If you need missiles or health, homing missiles have a chance to generate some pick-ups for you if you blow them up before they hit you. Continue blasting at Sylux until his health reaches about 75%which will enter him into the pseudo-second stage.
Once Sylux deploys his energy barrier around himself, scan it, and then transform into a morph ball. You are now going to play a game of chicken with Sylux, so Move to any location along the exterior wall And wait for him to charge you. When he does this, dUse three Psychic Bombs in a row and move out of the way. If done correctly, the bomb will explode and damage Sylux.
This part can take a little time to get down to, as Sylux's movement can be quite erratic at times. The trick is to try to get him to hit the wall, as this gives him a better opening and a more deterministic path to follow.
After the Psychic Bombs damage Sylux three times, he will break out of his spin attack and fall to his knees. Quickly pop out of morph ball form and blast him with a rocket. He will then heal and fly to the center of the map. Sylux will now perform energy wave or energy bombardment attacks.
If it's the latter, it's the perfect opportunity to actually hurt your Sylux. His bombs, even at max range, can't reach you if you stand on the back wall. So move there quickly and continue shooting at the stationary bounty hunter. If you have missiles, it's time to fully unload them all on him. After reaching about half health, Sylux will go back into Energy Tornado form and you will repeat the same steps listed above.
The only catch is that Sylux starts accelerating into an Energy Tornado after taking damage. Eventually, he'll slow down again, so focus on stunning him until he returns to his normal speed. Additionally, once Sylux is out of Energy Tornado, he can mix in some Melee Dash attacks, so he tries to rush you.
Continue this until Sylux's health runs out and a cutsce triggers. You'll earn a free energy tank for your troubles and can continue to progress through the Vault Forge.
