The new season will likely have more than 20 episodes
Frieren Season 2 is releasing on January 16th, 2026. Fans no longer have to wait for official accounts to share information about the release date. With the anime's release date confirmed, fans can brace themselves to see Frieren and his gang as they navigate the fantasy world.
Freeren Season 2 will likely adapt the Continued Northern Travels arc, the Divine Revolt arc, the Golden Land arc, and maybe even the Goddess' Monument arc. The initial season of the anime adapted 60 chapters, so there's no reason to believe the second will be any different unless the studio makes it shorter than the first.
The first season of Frieren: Beyond Journey's End consisted of 28 episodes, and they were divided into two courses. Considering that Madhouse is releasing a second season almost three years later, it wouldn't make sense if the episode count was lower than the first.
Frieren: The manga is on break beyond Journey's End
Fans are happy with the news about the return of the anime, but at the same time, they are worried about the manga. The Frieron manga is on indefinite hiatus due to the health conditions of Kanehito Yamada and Tsukasa Abe. The two have been working tirelessly on the manga, so they're bound to feel some sort of burnout.
Hopefully, the hiatus will help them recover so they can come back and finish the story. The ill health of Kanehito Yamada and Tsukasa Abe should serve as a reminder to readers that the manga industry is brutal and that the people working on the projects deserve a proper rest.
Other famous mangaka such as Eiichiro Oda, Yoshihiro Togashi and Gege Akutami have also suffered from poor health while constantly working on their projects. Recently, Gege Akutami revealed that her health did not improve until Oda suggested she go to another hospital. Hopefully, Kanehito Yamada and Tsukasa Abe won't have to go back to work.
