Warhammer 40K is the most wishlisted game at the Game Awards

The Game Awards have now been and gone for another year, bringing with it big announcements for exciting titles next year and beyond. It was a pretty stacked show this year too, giving us not only two new Tomb Raider game announcements, but a sequel to Control, a new Divinity game, a new Star Wars RPG from Casey Hudson, a new Mega Man, and that's just to name a few.

With so many big announcements, it can be quite fun to see which matches are the most anticipated, especially with so many heavy hitters on show. Thankfully, we can find out how much interest certain games have by looking at Steam's Most-Wanted section, and as Reddit user WhyPlaySerious has spotted, the game that's getting the most interest this year is actually pretty amazing.

Total War: Warhammer 40K is the Game Awards' most wish-listed game

Of all the new games announced at The Game Awards this year, it was actually Total War: Warhammer 40,000 that garnered the most wishlists, currently sitting at number 25 in Steam's Most Wished Lists section. That's pretty surprising, considering the number of heavy hitters on the show, though I think it's more in keeping with Total War's overall popularity on Steam. It's hard to imagine, but it's a franchise that makes Sega a lot of money, along with the likes of Sonic and Persona.

Interestingly, Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis and Control Resonant are second and third, while another surprisingly popular title Ace Combat 8: Wings of Thieves is fourth, with No Law in fifth. If you're wondering where Divinity and the new Star Wars RPG are, it's because they don't currently have Steam pages, so can't be wishlisted.

It was probably the last world premiere.

One of the more concerning aspects of this list is the status of Highguard, a new game by former Titanfall developers that was brutally bullied after its big reveal at the Game Awards. Highguard is the eleventh highest wishlisted game from the show, and currently sits at number 294 overall. That's not good for a free-to-play that's probably going to live or die on its playerbase.

Of course, it's worth noting that wishlists aren't a perfect barometer of how well a game is going to perform, but it's a good measure of public interest right now. From what we can gather with these wishlists, Total War is going to sell gangbusters, and Highguard is going to be dead on arrival. We will have to wait and see if this actually ends up being the case.
