Baldur's Gate 3 player discovers the strange Withers and Gale interaction

Baldur's Gate 3's honor mode is an uncertain proposition to navigate. The complexity of the game's various systems means that one wrong move can spell doom for the entire party, and a lot can go wrong in Sword Coast.

One of the strangest honor mod stories I've read is by LogensTenthFinger (I see you, Abercrombie), which describes an unfortunate series of events that trigger the untimely demise of their race.

He said step back

Mister Tenth Finger was attempting a non-lethal Minthara exploit, allowing you to recruit Minthara without having to endure the horrific scenes of attacking the Emerald Grove and seeing innocent Tyfals being slaughtered. By their own admission, they had “ignored the setup” and as a result everything went “very badly”.

And yet, Karlach managed to survive and returned to camp with a single hit point, so Run was hurt but still alive. However, after returning to Withers to revive his friends, Gale's corpse appears, and Karlach is dealt a single point of damage before Gale's resurrection is complete, ending the run prematurely.

If you are trying to beat Baldur's Gate 3 in Honor Mode do not – I repeat, DO NOT – entertain Harlep's offer.

Why? Well, while the original poster believed it was due to a collision from the body seen under Karlach. The real reason is actually specific to Gayle. I didn't know this until reading the comments, but Gale's corpse actually has an aura that deals 1d4 necrotic damage each turn to creatures around it. This is due to the Netherese Orb, which is slowly decaying without the magic needed to maintain the artifact.

In fact, if you leave Gale's corpse unattended for three long rests, then the Netherese Orb will explode and trigger a game-over screen.

Hand up at Baldur's Gate 3.

Withers teleports the corpses back to the camp before reviving the party members, so our hero's last remaining friend Karlach actually takes a single turn of necrotic damage before leaving Gale as a corpse. This run-ender has teased many that Withers' simple warning when reviving party members is unnecessary. He really means it.

Of course, surviving a disastrous attempt to disable a satirical sinker must quickly heal the surviving party members. At least, they were only in Act One when the run ended, so there's plenty of mental energy left to tackle the next run.
