Lego and Pokemon They are one of the biggest names out there, so a partnership between the two made sense. However, Mega Block had a deal initially PokemonPreventing The Lego Company from releasing sets based on the franchise. Only in 2025 did LEGO officially partner with The Pokemon Company after Mega Bloks lost the rights to the media franchise. Thanks to this new partnership, many LEGO fans will finally fulfill their dream of getting official sets based on pocket monsters from the games. LEGO's new Pokemon sets were recently revealed, and if you're on the fence about one of them, the LEGO Millennium Falcon set is why you should buy it.
LEGO fans are not happy with the Pikachu set
Among the upcoming arrivals, Lego unveiled Pikachu and Poke Ball. Priced at $199.99 USD, the set is on the expensive side, and some fans think the design is lacking. In fact, Reddit posts are starting to compare it to the old Mega Bloks Pikachu sets. In particular, the price difference was a significant criticism for many people, as the 2,050-piece Lego kit came in at twice the cost. Mega Bloks has released several Pikachu sets in the past, but the two most common are the Jumbo Pikachu and the Motion Pikachu, both of which can still be purchased for under $100. Jumbo Pikachu has 806 pieces and Motion Pikachu has 1,092, putting them at about half the pieces of the Lego set. While this is probably part of the reason for the price difference, these Mega Block sets are shaped like Lego Pikachu.
Pokemon fans seem “uncanny” compared to Lego Pikachu Mega Blocks
While price was a sticking point for many fans, it was complicated by what was considered poor design in some contexts. Despite coming with a Poke Ball, the Lego model of the electric-type Pokemon looked “weird” to some people, especially the face. There was also concern that the blocked body would not be easy to pose if removed from its stand. Also, it's worth noting that when comparing products, Mega Bloks' Motion Pikachu includes a crank that makes the model move, a feature not found in more expensive LEGO sets.
LEGO's Eevee set looks great
Although the reception of LEGO Pikachu has been weak, opinions of the Eevee set have been more positive. Coming in at 587 pieces, this set is only $59.99 USD, much cheaper than Pikachu and Poke Ball. While the Eevee model is smaller, many Lego fans find the design more attractive. However, this has led people to question what went wrong with Pikachu's design, especially since it's the franchise mascot.
In addition to these two individual models, LEGO revealed the Venusaur, Charizard, and Blastoise sets. While the designs for these Final Evolution Pokemon look similar to their in-game counterparts, the price comes in at $649.99 USD. This makes it the most expensive set in the line by a wide margin, but it contains 6,838 pieces. In addition to the Pokemon models, the base is divided into three separate areas based on the water, fire, and grass typings of the critters.
It will be interesting to see how the negative debate surrounding the Pikachu set may affect sales when the line is released on February 27th. Pokemon franchise, these new Lego sets will likely sell well. Unfortunately, scalpers have used it to their advantage by listing the set for a huge price increase on eBay.
