Expedition 33 has swept another awards show

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is becoming the most likely genre-defining JRPG to be released not just this decade, but possibly this millennium, depending on who you ask. It's been steadily collecting GOTY awards since awards season began – including our own – and has already managed to collect over 400. It's breathing down Elden Ring's neck, we're talking about how good the game is here.

And even though we're now more than two weeks into 2026, Clair Obscur isn't slowing down when it comes to collecting honors, as it's on track to sweep another awards show. First reported by Game Developers (thanks PC Gamer), Claire Obscur has been nominated for eight out of a possible nine awards at this year's Game Developers Choice Awards.

While it's not guaranteed that it will win any other awards, given how previous awards shows have gone with Claire Obscur dominating the nominations, it could take many of them. Those awards are Best Audio, Best Debut, Best Design, Innovation Award, Best Narrative, Best Technology, Best Visual Art and Game of the Year. For the grand prize, Claire is up against Obscur Blue Prince,Donkey Kong Banana,Ghost of Yōtei,Hollow Knight: Silksongand Split Fiction.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 breaks the record for most wins at game awards

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 broke the record previously held by Baldur's Gate 3 and The Last of Us Part 2.

In fact, the only award Clair Obscur was nominated for was the award for Social Impact, which it wasn't actually going to be nominated for anyway. It might be a great game, but a bunch of French people running around a fantasy world doesn't exactly have the poignant message it's trying to convey.

We don't know who will win these awards until March 12. During the GDC festival of gaming in San Francisco, so we have some time to wait. Then again, it feels like a pretty foregone conclusion at this point, and it could be confirmation that Claire Obscur will be picking up GOTY awards at least until March. Look at the Elden Ring behind you.
