Additionally, Rirui, as cute as she seems at first glance, is not what she seems.
While the series includes many RPG-esque adventures, dungeon exploration, and monster battles, its true focus is on the relationship between Hajime and Rirui and, to a lesser extent, the relationship with many others in the village. The first episode makes it abundantly clear that the man has many demons to deal with, having spent his childhood sleeping in drains and scavenging for scraps of food. He's not exactly what you'd call “daddy material,” but watching him grow into his new role is one of the series' major draws. Her longtime friend Veronica, who runs a shop in town, is also eager to see what the future holds, but Olive, a high-ranking member of the local guild, soon worries about what will happen the first night Hajime takes the young woman in.
After escaping the dungeon and returning home for some much-needed rest, Hajime wakes up to find not a little girl by his side, but instead a woman with great wealth.
