Resident Evil is scarier than Requiem Village, but Race 7 isn't

The director of Resident Evil Requiem has confirmed that the game will likely be no scarier than the series' pinnacle horror entry and my personal favorite, Resident Evil 7.

When it comes to the most beloved Resident Evil games, there are some obvious choices. Most fans go for Resident Evil 4 and its genre-changing action focus, but anyone with true taste like myself will point to Resident Evil 7, the scariest game in the series. Sadly, no entry since then has really offered this much fear, especially 7's sequel, Resident Evil Village.

Ever since Resident Evil Requiem was revealed and Sections of Grace showed a return to horror focus, everyone has been wondering if it can actually top Resident Evil 7. It is sad that this is not the case, although it should be clear to everyone why.

Don't expect Resident Evil Requiem to scare you as much as Race 7

It won't be as airy as the village, though

As pointed out by VideoGamer.com , Resident Evil Requiem was recently featured on the PlayStation Blog, along with an interview with director Koshi Nakanishi. The PS Blog notes that players found Resident Evil 7 “intensely terrifying”, which is why the village was dialed down to horror when it was released.

Resident Evil Requiem is a full circle moment for the survival horror icon

Leon Kennedy and Grace Ashcroft are a match made in survival horror heaven.

When asked where Requiem would be placed on the “horror scale”, Nakanishi said that the combination of Leon and Grace's segments means that there is more of a middle ground between horror and action than other games in the series. With that balance in mind, Nakanishi says that Requiem, while not “suffocating,” could be scarier than Resident Evil Village.

Leon's parts are still scary, of course, but I'd say they're more exciting than purely scary. Overall, the game may be scarier than Resident Evil Village, but it alternates between tension and relief, so it's not a constant, suffocating experience. – Koshi Nakanishi

That “penetrating” line is apparently a reference to Resident Evil 7, which Nakanishi has previously admitted might be a little too scary for some. While Requiem obviously ranks higher on the “horror scale” than The Village , it looks like it's not going to be as scary as Resident Evil 7 .

It seems that Requiem can't be considered a new horror game in the series, even if Grace's sections look scary, because of Leon. It's hard to say the whole game is scarier than Resi 7 when you've got a campaign that lets you roundhouse kick and hatchet anything that might give you the heebie jeebies.
