A team led by studio co-founders and former Atlas developers personality Co-creator Kouji Okada is releasing an ambitious JRPG later this year Villian: Code. While the experience and pedigree of the playing staff is certainly on display personality-esque properties, it promises to offer something different from Atlus' turn-based RPG empire.
Besides Kouji Okada, Villian: Code Developed by Tadashi Satomi (visual writer) and Tsukasa Masuka (composer), both of whom have extensive working experience. personality and Shin Megami Tensei series, respectively. These creatives have clearly demonstrated their talent in the past, and their involvement Villian: Code While developer Compile Heart has struggled to achieve major success in the past, that should inspire some confidence. But it will Villian: Code is a pale imitation of personality and Shin Megami Tensei Games that clearly inspired it, or will it manage to carve out a more solid, unique reputation for itself?
Villian: Code Launches on June 25, 2026, but only in Japan. Plans for a worldwide release have not been revealed at this time.
Is Villian: Code 'Persona-like'?
The first thing is important to know Villian: Code Its setting is: The game takes place in the far future in a self-sufficient island city called Adhvan Resilience Research Academy City off the coast of Tokyo. The city's namesake, Adhvan Resilience Research Academy, was originally formed to help save humanity from extinction, but some of its staff and student body took a mad scientist route, using advanced gene-editing technology and transforming into monsters called GEMs. As a result, the island is enclosed in a bubble that prevents further evacuation or entry.
In typical JRPG fashion, rather than some sort of military task force or group of highly trained operatives, the fate of Adhvan Resilience Research Academy City, and perhaps the entire world, rests in the hands of a group of teenagers. Participants of the Adhwan Resilience Research Academy, Villian: Code's The Core Ensemble uses partial gene-editing technology to transform parts of their bodies into unique, powerful weapons, making them unprecedented instruments of destruction, heroism, or perhaps both.
Villian: The main character of the code
-
Protagonist: The player-character, 17 years old, is very advanced, having missed a year of school. He (gender and gender is not part of choice Villian: Code) is a member of the basketball team, is close to Susilo, and is Rika Hayashi's older nephew.
-
Rika Hayashi: A 13-year-old 1st year student, Rika is a member of the Occult Research Club and is known for her erratic, easily excited personality.
-
Susilo Sugiono: The oldest of the group, 19-year-old Susilo is an Indonesian student on the basketball team with the hero. His relationship with the protagonist is like that of an elder and a younger brother.
-
Anastasia Ivanovna Valerievtskaya: Smart and capable, this 18-year-old is a popular cosplayer and social media personality with a tough outer shell. His superstitious nature likely informs his adventures in removing the GEMs.
-
Chloe Berge: A passionate animal rights and environmental activist, Chloe has been suspended from school several times for refusing to participate in animal experiments. 14-year-old 3rd-year is a good student, but struggles with interpersonal relationships.
-
Oliver Heath: Oliver is only 15 years old, but he has the maddened scorn of a much older man. A sharp-witted member of the Debate Club, he is academically and intellectually brilliant, but widely disliked due to his rigid, nihilistic worldview.
Like any good personality or Megaten game, Villian: Code Features a colorful cast, but it will be interesting to see what kind of role each character will play in the game's story. Everyone except Rika is confirmed to live in the same dorm, and since Rika is related to the hero, it's possible that she'll find a way to fraternize with this large group as well. As such, it's safe to say that players will get to know these characters very well throughout their time with the game, but will Villian: Code There will be romance, a personality– such as the bond system, or other specific social sim mechanics remain unclear at this time.
Real-time, not turn-based, combat is at the heart of Villian: Code
While Villian: Code's ensemble cast, science fiction story, and main party of eccentric teenagers aligns it with previous Atlus works, with its moment-to-moment gameplay setting it apart. opposite Shin Megami Tensei and personalitywhich despite their invention are dyed-in-the-wool turn-based games, Villian: Code A real-time action-RPG, described as fast and intense. Its dungeons, which are procedurally generated and, oddly enough, tube-shaped, are filled with GEMs that will conjure battlefields on contact. Within these arenas, players can take on various party members, hacking, slashing, and unleashing special powers on their enemies.
Hopefully, this combat system will introduce some nice variety to the featured ARPG combat Villian: Codetrailer of There are certainly some interesting and unusual design choices already on display, such as the 360-degree aerial repositioning mechanic, so I'll be eagerly awaiting how the game shakes out.
