Gale actor of Baldur's Gate 3 calls recording character's death lines “hurt”.

Gale Dekarios is, for many reasons, one of Baldur's Gate 3's most iconic characters. The slightly awkward wizard of Waterdeep excels in combat, is a great friend, and has some wicked one-liners. Also, he is the ex-boyfriend of a literal goddess.

Of all Gayle's legendary lines, actor Tim Downey says there's one he's asked to repeat over and over again. However, he says he wishes the character's death sounds got more airtime, simply because “they hurt.”

Speaking on the Fall Damage YouTube channel, actor Tim Downey, whose first and only video game role was as Gale Decarios, revealed which line he's been asked to repeat the most. “Stop licking the damn thing is obviously an absolute firm favourite,” he told the channel, before recalling what it was like to record that particular segment of the game.

Baldur's Gate 3 console version recently received an updated Red Witch class, four subclasses, and the ability to automate combat.

Skull Collector's Path sounds like an awful lot of fun.

“It was the most surprising thing to me, actually, when I did it,” he said. “We recorded it pretty straight, and then the last step we did, I just imagined talking to my own kids, if they were doing something like that. [licking a spider] Or pick something up off the floor and eat it.”

The conversation then moved on to what Downey thought was Gayle's most underrated line, and after a pause, he said, “I think a lot of death sounds are underrated because they took so long and were recorded on the shelf during Covid. I'd like to see them get some airtime, because they hurt.”

In the same video, Karlach actor Samantha Burt delivers her most requested lines, “Hey soldier,” “Stay close to Mama Kay,” and “It's either violent, sexy, or both.” And Jennifer English, who played Shadowheart, said, “You can't cast a shadow without light,” and also, “I'm God's favorite princess and the most interesting girl in the world.”
