Peter Molyneux likes the new Fables trailer, but says the world looks too clean

The new Fable game is the first mainline entry created by a new team of devs. That comes after Lionhead shut down in 2016, marking the end of an era for Xbox.

Now, Fable is in the hands of the playground, and it has a lot to prove. But it's gotten a little easier as the team now has a stamp of approval from Lionhead cofounder Peter Molyneux, who really liked the new trailer.

Peter Molyneux says he will be one of the first to play Fable this year

The player is ready to do battle with a giant cockatrice in Fable.

Molyneux expressed his love for the new story in an interview with PCGamesN when asked for his thoughts.

“When I saw the trailer, I was incredibly emotional because I thought 'Wow, this thing that we've spent so much time on has got a new life – it's going to continue and entertain and bring joy to people',” he says. “That was my overall feeling, and I was incredibly proud that something we created all those years ago has life in today's world.”

The player is ready to attack a nearby hob in Fable.

Peter Molyneux hasn't seen the new Fable, but the devs are big fans of the original

The legend is very much in the hands of the playground, because Peter Molyneux has not actually seen it.

Says he will be one of the first to pick it up when it starts autumn, he takes more praise. However, he has one criticism. “The slightly negative thing I had was a slightly antiseptic feeling about the world,” he explains. “The story was set in 'Old England' Albion where everything was clean and undefined. It was dirty and ridiculous and the characters walked around with big gloves and big shoes: it was silly and ridiculous; it wasn't realistic. To me, that dirtiness and lack of cleanliness actually added to the overall character of the play.”

In Fable 3, this is taken even further as large parts of Bowerstone are turned into a polluted industrial hell. The reboot, on the other hand, takes us back to something reminiscent of the first and second Legends games, albeit with the whimsy dialed down based on what we've seen so far.

Meanwhile, we'll see a different take on Albion in Molyneux's own game, Masters of Albion. It's launching in Early Access on April 22nd, initially only available on PC.
