Claire's marriage to Lord John Gray changes everything for Jamie
Lord John Gray and Jamie's friendship is severely strained when Claire marries John, thinking Jamie is dead, and subsequent misunderstandings during the war. John was only trying to help Claire; During this period a woman herself is susceptible to many dangers, but if she has the protection of a husband, especially a husband of status, she is much safer.
John and Claire's wedding is a hollow echo of how Jamie and Claire's wedding turned out. Claire was grieving her life and her first husband, Frank Randall, in the 1940s. Jamie steps in and marries her to protect her from the wrath of Frank's ancestor, Black Jack Randall. Although Jamie and Claire fall in love, this is not the case with John and Claire. John was also in love with Jamie, although he respected Jamie's relationship with Claire and was displeased with John's romantic or sexual relationship. Nevertheless, they had a strong and lasting friendship for many years. After William's mother died of complications after birth, John raised Jamie's bastard child, William Ransom, as his own.
After Jamie supposedly returns from the dead, he's upset about the circumstances of meeting John and Claire – even more so to discover they've been sleeping together. Although it was out of their joint desire and shared grief for Jamie, Jamie still felt it was a betrayal. Jamie violently beats John and leaves him to be taken prisoner by Continental soldiers. John eventually escapes and lives, though his friendship with Jamie will never be the same.

Outlander still needs to explain the ghost of Jamie Fraser in Inverness
Outlander Finally there is a need to address the identity of the ghost who has been watching Claire in 1940s Inverness, widely believed to be Jamie, as he has not yet died in the series. Diana Gabaldon, Author Outlander The books confirm that the ghost Frank Randall saw watching Claire Outlander Season 1, Episode 1, “Sassenach,” is actually Jamie Fraser. Gabaldon also confirmed that Jamie would not be able to move forward in time. He does not have the genetic ability to allow time travel.
So how does Jamie fare in the rain in 1940s Scotland? There is definitely a supernatural element to the game. In Season 7, Episode 2, “The Happiest Place on Earth,” Jamie tells Claire about a dream he had, where he was looking through Claire's window, and she was surrounded by light. The night in question was Samhain, a night when the veil between the living and the dead is at its thinnest. something Outlander Fans theorize that when Jamie suffered a snakebite and was near death in Season 5, Episode 9, “Monsters and Heroes,” his spirit traveled forward in time and saw Claire. Be that as it may, Outlander Season 8 needs to come full circle and explain what we saw in the first episode.
