It has been a short lived life Highguard. The PvP raid shooter took the coveted final spot at last year's Games Awards ceremony, surprising many as titles. Star Wars: The Fate of the Old Republic, Tomb Raider: Catalyst, and divinity All were strong contenders to close the show with a bang. Instead, host Geoff Keighley clearly enjoyed his time Highguard So much so during the initial hands-on session that he insisted on the revelation that it was in the program. Developer Wildlight Entertainment, which is made up of industry veterans who previously worked on the likes of Apex Legends and Battlefield 6The plan was initially to leave the game at the end of January. Highguard is scratching an itch I didn't know existed

Highguard is the internet's latest punching bag, but while it's far from a perfect game, it's scratching an itch I didn't know existed.

Highguard set to release final update later today

Earlier this week, Wildlight Entertainment announced the news that the gaming community has been anticipating for the past few weeks: Highguard is officially closed. The servers will remain operational until March 12th, and those who have stuck around since launch will have some new content to check out thanks to the final farewell update. The patch will go live on March 4 at 4 PM PST for all supported platforms, and marks the end of support for the free-to-play title. According to the patch notes, which can be found further down in this article, the update is adding account progression, where players can earn XP and skill points to spend on new skill trees to level up. There is also a new Warden, known as Koldo, and a new weapon, the Switchback Shotgun.

I like it a lot consentDue to which the life span was even shorter HighguardIts failure will be a subject of debate for a long time. However, a former developer at Wildlight Entertainment believes the shooter will fail because the studio leaned too far into the competitive scene. Alex Garner, who was the senior level designer for HighguardThat said, going all-in on the 3v3 mode for the game had the potential to be its downfall. The developer notes how 3v3 modes are always a “sweat version” of things like battle royale, objective modes, and more. “I think that's the biggest thing that turns a lot of players off Highguard” Said the former Wildlight dev.

Unfortunately, the game's shutdown hasn't come as much of a surprise. at launch, Highguard Peaked at around 100,000 concurrent players on Steam. But that number soon dropped, and fast. Just last week, Highguard The platform reached a brutal new low, dropping as low as 253 concurrent players. Of course, this doesn't take into account how many people were playing on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, but Steam numbers can be somewhat of an indicator of how a game is performing. Although we'll never know the official console figures for the shooter, there clearly weren't enough players to keep the game alive.

It is not clear what it is HighguardThe closure means a lot to those staying at Wildlight Entertainment, as it has yet to be confirmed whether the studio will go back to the drawing board and develop a new title or if the studio will shut down as well. Less than a month after release HighguardWildlight announced they are leaving the studio. In a statement posted on its social media accounts, Wildlight said it has made the difficult decision to part ways with several employees. At the time, it said a core group of developers would stick around to continue support HighguardBut what the future holds for those left behind at the studio is unknown.

New Warden – Koldo

An ancient spirit forced to protect the lost continent of Highgard

Koldo was found in Highguard. A long-lost soul, trapped inside a suit of armor, he searches for answers to his past. Koldo uses the power of his soul to save his allies.

Passive: Guardian Angel

Protect any friendly orbs around you from destruction.

Automatically deploy your shield when reviving allies.

Tactical: Soul Shield

Deploy shields for you and your allies.

Ultimate: Battle Cry

Coldo raises the standard to create a protective dome. He can raise and carry the standard, and drop it again at will.

Being inside the dome gives allies faster health regeneration.

New Weapon – Switchback

Long range double barrel gun

The Switchback brings unparalleled versatility, handling both close and long-range encounters with ease. When used in hipfire, it is a shotgun. Aiming down sights will convert the weapon into a sniper rifle.

The name “Switchback” originates from its unique double barrel design. You're able to shoot twice in quick succession before needing to rechamber, though you can speed up your shots to keep a steady stream of fire.

In the area, many wardens have tried to run a switchback. Only a few have truly learned to master it.

Gold version

Switchback has 2 gold versions that can be found in loot chests or with Trader Flynn.
