A Mega Man Legends collection is not currently planned at Capcom

The Mega Man Legends Collection feels like the obvious next step now that Capcom's upcoming Mega Man Star Force Collection will feature revisits to nearly every other game the sprawling franchise has launched. Of course, only the legends remain series Under the broad Mega Man moniker that has yet to see the treatment.

Legends, however, have always been in a somewhat precarious position. It was intended to continue the third game; In fact, the excellent second title pretty much set up. Infamously, that never materialized. Fans have been looking forward to the fantasy Mega Man Legends 3 for almost 15 years. This puts the three-game series (there's a spinoff starring the antihero Tron Bone, you see) in a kind of limbo that none of its brethren suffer from.

But can we go back in time to Walnut and his friends? maybe

Era Mega Man Legends

The hard-working staff of the RPG site (hey, I got bylines there!) had the chance to catch up with Mega Man Star Force Legacy Collection director, Koji Oda, as well as producer, Shingo Izumi. The conversation, of course, is largely focused on the March 27 release of the Battle Network successor series' all-in-one modification. Some of the tweaks include the awesome ability to view a meeting scene with MegaMan.EXE, which many players missed because it required plugging a Battle Network cartridge into the DS when Star Force was playing in the DS slot. Suffice it to say, it doesn't work here.

I'm feeling it.

You should read the full interview. Let the RPG site click! But I'll avoid burying the lead here from now on. The very last question pointed out that Capcom has already delivered all of the following collections: Classic, X, Zero, ZX, Battle Network, and Star Force. Quite simply, there is no series left for me other than Legends.

“At this time, there are no plans to do so. However, as mentioned in a previous response, when we consider new collection projects in the future, a Mega Man Legends collection would also be one of the possible candidates.” – Shingo Azumi

Azumi has a definite candidacy for immediate approval but there are no plans at the moment. This means, if his word is to be fully believed, that there is no undisclosed background development. In talking about “new collection projects”, Azumi may be speaking more broadly within Capcom's vast library; He could easily refer directly to the Mega Man franchise, though. At which point, the only real contender would be some sort of, I don't know, “Mega Man: The Rest” packed with all the one-offs and weird ports.

So far, sales seem pretty steady for these re-releases. Battle Network, in particular, really lit up the charts, which is good news for Star Force's odds in the market. If this muster passes, it will probably leave the Legends in short order.

For now, all eyes are on Mega Man: Dual Override, which the company probably did right by not titling it “Mega Man 12” instead. There are few ways to turn off a younger potential audience than to worry about having to play previous entries first, and as Square Enix has long observed with Final Fantasy, the opposite seems to be the amount of marketing each game does to reach every single brain. Is it the same? It's Mega Man 12 in full.
