The KOTOR remake was announced five years ago, and all we've heard (besides the developers) are vague platitudes that it still exists. Just yesterday, Saber Interactive's chief creative officer, Tim Willits, assured once again that “it's still in development,” but no, he couldn't tell us anything. Thankfully, leaks can.
YouTuber and reputed KOTOR remake leaker 100% Star Wars responded to Willits' comments and the skepticism surrounding it, claiming to have seen the footage and assuring that things are going smoothly – in fact, they alleged that if all goes well, the remake could resurface later this year.
All I can say is that they are doing things right overall.
“I've seen Saber's KOTOR remake… and I'm extremely impressed with most of what they've done,” they posted on X . “After seeing both, I think it was the right choice to cancel Aspire's remake and start from scratch. If things continue smoothly, this year is possible…”
The KOTOR remake was originally “much more action oriented”, with combat similar to Jedi: Fallen Order and Final Fantasy 7-style timers.
We haven't seen anything of the original project, outside of leaked concept art, and all that really hooked us was that the Kashyyk was going to look like the Kashyyyk. However, 100% Star Wars claims to have details on combat, “Aspyr's remake was more action oriented.”
“I would compare it to Poor Man's Fallen Order with FF7 pause mechanics,” they explained in response. “I can't speak for Saber, but how can you read it.”
The emphasis on 'was' is an interesting note, though how the combat has changed, and what Saber's version of the KOTOR remake will look like, remains unclear. As for Sony's involvement (remember, it was announced in State of Play way back), 100% Star Wars doesn't know if they're still involved, but said “I don't have a feeling.”
