Admittedly, I've never been the creative type. When it came to this LittleBigPlanet franchise, I was always playing other creators' levels instead of making my own, and the same goes for the equally ambitious Media Molecule. dreams. On MinecraftI like to let my friends and loved ones build while I gather materials for them or work on the interior of their finished creations. And when I create things, like mine Animal Crossing Island, rather than being motivated to stay smart I'll often be satisfied once it's over. However, I have always appreciated it Disney Dreamlight Valleyof DreamSnaps, because they're a constant source of clever ideas within the laid-back gaming scene…which is why I've been freaking out about them lately.
When I played a ton Disney Dreamlight Valley At launch, it fell out of my rotation, but that hasn't stopped me from following the game. And, in particular, the DreamSnaps community. Every week, I would watch as my fiance spent hours creating his ideal scene, responding when he asked for it but usually just being fascinated by his work. And the same goes for the DreamSnaps subreddit, which we'll both check out regularly to see cool snaps that don't pop up in her voting pool. Sadly, though, we've seen more and more players get snubbed for great photos, while the photos my friend sunk extra time in haven't fared as well as of late. Unfortunately, this doesn't seem to be bad luck, as a sense of injustice goes hand-in-hand with recent changes to Gameloft's DreamSnaps system.
DreamSnaps was introduced on July 19, 2023, and is a weekly photo contest Disney Dreamlight Valley The community creates and snaps photos of scenes that match the theme of the time.

Disney Dreamlight Valley's DreamSnap changes are proving problematic
While DreamSnaps would normally just be a fun, optional activity, they reward players with Moonstones – a currency used for Star Paths and in-game store purchases. Since players receive at least 300 Moonstones just for participating, some players will call it a selfie, rather than following a set theme. Although it's always a bummer to watch (especially when players have to vote between two users who haven't tried), these photos are at least less likely to do well than those who tried. Or at least, that was the case, as many trying players are noticing that they're having less success than they did before the system's overhaul.

On paper, changes Disney Dreamlight ValleyThe DreamSnaps sounded good. with DDVIn the Puppy Love update, Dreamsnaps were changed so that they would be determined entirely by player votes. Previously, players would get a boost in Moonstones for using a certain number of tagged objects in their photos, but now, it's entirely up to players to determine the quality of the photo. In theory, this should be a good thing, as taking photos should be less restrictive now that tagged items are no longer mandatory. Although, while the idea that removing tags would be beneficial seemed good, in reality, it actually seems to be doing more harm than good.
First and foremost, on the use of tags Disney Dreamlight Valley's DreamSnaps essentially gave players a “cushion” in case they were unfairly shaken in that week's voting. Maybe they paired it with a really incredible photo instead of one of the many players who phoned it in, or maybe their DreamSnap wasn't pushed to many gamers for whatever reason. In the old system, they would still get a good deal of moonstones even if they were less than expected because they used the tagged items better. But now, they will be out of luck if the polls don't go their way.
Proof of the new DreamSnap problem at Disney Dreamlight Valley
Another issue is shown in the image above from nueroredditor. Despite creating a truly breathtaking creation, they received only 900 Moonstones, their lowest reward “in months.” Most users in the comments were surprised, with some pointing out that there could be problems with players having full control over voting. Essentially, the community decided that the seaside theme meant a New England vibe, with little room for interpretation. This means that anyone who tries to do something different — like nueroredditor's colorful outfit instead of a sailor outfit — shouldn't get a fair shake. It's just a theory like commenter Kind-Fun6939 shared to explain why a great photo like this only got 900 Moonstones, but it makes sense to reward conformity…even if that's exactly what the new DreamSnap system is meant to avoid.
This was hardly the only instance of players struggling to understand the changes. The image above from DreamSquid shows another 900 Moonstone payout for an on-theme photo. As a personal example, my fiance had his lowest score in weeks even though he was on the theme. Like the two Redditors above, he received far fewer Moonstones than he would before the change, with the DreamSnap being able to see below. What makes this all the more frustrating is that there are probably people who haven't tried that are getting the same amount (or slightly more) of Moonstones. And if those who try continue to get less than they should for their efforts, the casual gaming community is going to be disappointed, and few people can be bothered to try harder with their DreamSnaps.

DreamSnaps' Moonstone Payouts need changes, and they need them soon
Personally, I'm not sure what the answer is. Maybe Gameloft should go back to the tag system, or maybe the entire voting system could use a rework. Many players don't like how similar photos are paired earlier in the week, forcing them to use their skips and then leaving them in the position of constantly voting for low-effort photos. There are definitely a lot of great DreamSnaps out there that aren't even being shown to the community, so a way to view or tag high-effort photos can be beneficial. Unlimited skips may also be a change worth making. Based on the beach photo results, though, it looks like it something should be changed.
While it might be a little early to mourn DreamSnaps, I'm really worried that low-effort creations will become more prevalent because people who put hours into their photos are feeling insulted lately. Maybe things will get better as the new system settles in, but it's not hard to notice the difference of thousands of moonstones for the same quality creation. Fortunately, there are people who just love the art of digital photography and don't care about Moonstone payments, so at least I'll have the DreamSnaps subreddit to fall back on if nothing is done about the in-game voting process. Still, it would be nice if Gameloft listened to the complaints after switching to player votes, as the new format is making something that many look forward to less appealing each week.
