After the preface in GreedFall: The Dying WorldOne of the first friends to join your party is Alvida. However, circumstances pull you away from him when you reach a safe destination, and only after you deal with that will you get him back in your party.
As soon as she rejoins the team, you get the chance to start her first companion quest, The Heritage of the Sea. There are many ways to approach it, and it's possible to miss it altogether, so here's how to beat the search and get more approval with Alvida.
How to start Alvida's Companion Quest
After the bye trial, regardless of the outcome, Silvio the Carpenter will inform about his late mother. He doesn't want to talk about it there, though, and says they can talk later.
Now, don't assume that means he wants you to meet him at his shop in the market; He is there, but he has nothing to say. instead, He went to the mine and reached the table where Alvida was sitting.
This will start a conversation between the player, Silvio and Alvida. Here, Silvio will explain that since Alvida's new ship was previously her mother's, there must be a hidden compartment containing her logbook.
True, Alvida will find her mother's logbook by the time you board the ship. From here, she will ask you to help her track down someone who can decipher the code her mother wrote.
As with any companion quest, accepting it locks you into your party until you complete it. You can only start one friend search at a time.

Need help choosing your starting build in GreedFall: The Dying World?
Return to Uxantis
The first step of the search does not involve going anywhere. Alvida wants to ask about the logbook, which includes talking to the admiral on Uxantis. It was enough for me to just talk to one person near the bottom half of the map. Turns out, he's Alvida's father, so there's some extra dialogue.
He'll point you in the direction of the library, so follow the map marker there. Talk to the man behind the counter, and he says it's written in code, and he can't figure it out in a hurry. Instead, he instructs you to try to find someone from Alvida's mother's past who might be familiar with the code she used.
Go to Oli and find Alma
The woman you're looking for is Alma, a fellow nut who moved into Ollie. Set up camp there and start searching for his location.
If you haven't completed the main story quest Kuraj's plan Still, then The guards of Olima will be hostile to you. Besides, if it's your first time at Olima, you'll be Identification and possible attack from your wanted posters by a person in the docks. Bring Safaya with you to talk to your attacker.
You are given some ideas for this, but there is a quick and easy way Talk to the bartender in the tavern and give him the pure potion For his hangover. He will then tell you where you can find Alma, updating your map.
Follow the map marker to Alma's house. Outside the bridge Alliance guards will try to capture him. Go ahead and start a conversation. All dialogue options turn into fightsBut you will get various endorsement benefits/disadvantages with Alvida.
- Ask the soldiers for information about the operation: No change in acceptance.
- Attack the soldiers: +1 approval with Alvida.
- Let the soldiers take Alma:-2 Approve with Goodbye (Goodbye will also start a fight with the soldiers, making them hostile to you as well).
During the fight, another nut will come to your aid. Once the fight is over, they reveal that Alvida's father sent her to keep her safe. Bye is not happy about it. You then have the option to either support the bodyguard, send them, or let Alvida decide for herself. If you let Alvida decide you get +2 Acceptance.
Escort Alma for protection
Alma will be shaken, but safe – but for a long time. He needs to be taken back to the ship so he can look at the logbook. This includes walking with her every step of the way, and not being able to fast-travel.
If you want, you can tell Alma to stay ready for now and go ahead and fight any guards that come your way, or grab some more potions if you think you need them. Otherwise, tell her to follow you now, and fight them while she's there, or hide them entirely.
Your friends should have a sound line if you're going down the street with guards. If not, just look for a bunch of targetable NPCs standing around.
Once you arrive at your ship at the docks, Alma is secured. You have the option to immediately board and discuss the logbook with her, or explore more about Olima first with the rest of your party.
