Every '90s Dragon Ball Z movie, ranked from worst to best

Most of them aren't canon, but that doesn't stop them Dragon Ball Fans enjoy the various movies the franchise has put out over the years. Anime and manga are classics, though Dragon Ball Movies also have their fair share of great moments.

The 90s were a great decade Dragon Ball Movies, mostly with famous ones Z Movies coming in the decade. From fan-favorites like Cooler and Broly to lesser-known rivals, the Dragon Ball flicks of the '90s had some fun villains and all were explosive in their own way. Some were better than others, so with that being said, here's how each '90s Dragon Ball Z movie ranks.

Bio-broly

One of the last DBZ 90s films, you could say that Takao Koyama was getting things out of his A material as the decade wore on. First Broly The movie is still a fan-favorite, but the two follow-ups got progressively worse.

Bio-Broly is probably one of the worst, if not the absolute worst, Dragon Ball animated movies. It focuses on an interesting combination of characters, with Goten, Trunks, and Android 18 all getting some time in the spotlight. But at this point, Broly has overstayed his welcome, and the character doesn't really have much to do. The slimmed down version of the Saiyan Berserker is probably one of the worst villain designs in the series.

The strongest in the world

Second Z Movies and the first of the 90s, The strongest in the worldDefinitely a lot of fun moments and great if you want to revisit it soon Z The vibe movie stars the Z-Fighters as Dr. pits against Wheel, a mad scientist whose body has been replaced with a powerful new metal.

Wheelo is not the most memorable villain in the series, although he was the last to use an armored robot, and it was very powerful. Aside from some great team-up scenes and a fun little song Gohan sings about Piccolo in the Japanese version, The World's Strongest doesn't do much to stand out.

Lord Slug

Also known as Dragon Ball Z: Super Saiyan Son Goku, Dragon Ball Z: Lord Slug Goku faces off against the titular Super Namekian. But the film is perhaps most notable for what is mentioned in the alternate title rather than its villain or story.

Slug is a solid villain, but the most interesting thing about this movie is that he debuted as a Super Saiyan just 10 days before his actual Super Saiyan form was revealed in the manga. Referred to as a pseudo-Super Saiyan, the form was only used in this movie, making for an interesting footnote in Lord Slug. Dragon Ball history

Broly – The Second Coming

Second in Broly Saga, Broly – The Second Coming A fun movie but doesn't live up to the original. Still, it's much better than what fans are getting Bio-broly A few months later.

The plot isn't great, and there are some contradictions with actual canon events that might annoy some, but it's nice to see Broly back, and there are some good fights. Broly surviving and landing on Earth in the first movie is a huge stretch, but makes for a wonderful family drama in the end. Second Coming Worth watching.

The Tree of Might

When a mysterious device crashes on Earth, a group of mercenaries plant a parasitic tree that threatens to destroy the planet. Goku and the gang set out to destroy it, but come face to face with a powerful Saiyan who looks just like Goku.

of course, The Tree of Might Did the whole 'what if Goku, but worse' thing Super Decades ago Goku was drawn to Black. Did it go well? That's hard to say. Turles' memorability has a lot to do with him being a Goku clone, though that doesn't mean he wasn't a solid villain for the film.

Return of the cooler

Fans saw Broly being reintroduced as a canon character Dragon Ball Super: Broly movie Cooler is a character that many hope will get the same treatment, though that seems unlikely.

It may not be as good as the first Cooler movie, but Return of the cooler Still a great watch, and it has some great moments from Goku, Vegeta, and Piccolo. The highlight of the movie is the introduction of Meta-Cooler, who looks like a better version of Mecha Frieza and is one of the funniest movie villains in the franchise.

Super Android 13!

As Future Trunks' first DB movie, it only makes sense Super Android 13! Z-Fighters features some tough Androids to take on. The movie is confirmed to take place in a different timeline, that's all Z Movie to get that distinction.

Super Android 13! Z-Fighters sees them battling a trio of Androids (13, 14, and 15) who have one goal in mind: take down Goku for good. It's just a rehash of what the original android trio's initial goals were in the manga and anime, but Super Android 13!' The main antagonist of the title puts up a really strong fight and gives us some of the most memorable movie fight scenes out there.

Cooler Revenge

Since Frieza is as popular as a villain, going for a movie-only villain with ties to a space tyrant was bound to go over well with fans. In the film, Frieza's brother Cooler has come to Earth to avenge Frieza's death.

It's a pretty standard plotline, and there's really nothing special about it Cooler Revenge Descriptively. But the movie gave us a great final look at one of the series' most popular villains, as well as Cooler.

Bojack Unbound

BoJack may be one of the most underappreciated Dragon Ball Movie villain. He may not have the popularity of Broly and Cooler, but he was the ultimate boss-type enemy that the other two feared.

Bojack Unbound Gohan plays the lead role in the movie, which takes place after the events of the Cell Games saga. Our heroes face off against a group of dangerous alien mercenaries, but this time there's nothing new with intrigue in the intergalactic competition. Bojack actually comes across as an impressive post-Cell villain, and seeing Gohan get some extra time in the spotlight makes this a must-see for anyone considering the direction the series will take with his character later on. Wrath of the Dragon

When it comes to Dragon Ball movies, Wrath of the Dragon The best of them deserves to be mentioned. This time, it's not the villain who stands out, but a new one-time ally named Tapion.

Aside from looking very similar to Link and having a few things in common with him Ocarina of Time What makes Tapien's friendship with the Avatar, Trunks Wrath of the Dragon stand out. The two develop a strong bond, culminating in Tapien gifting Trunks his Brave Sword, which many speculate is similar to the sword used by Future Trunks (although it is not actually connected).
