Generally, it is considered that decoration is nothing more than decoration. A bit of fashion. Monster Hunter thrives on layered armor, for you to fashion your own, after all.
However, decorations are really the major effects that you can put on your weapons and armor. In the case of Monster hunter stories 3 weapons, they can give you brand new skills to use during battle. Here are some of the best games on offer.
These decorations are spread across a variety of weapons, and are listed in no particular order.
Cheer – any weapon
Cheer is a useful little decoration purely for the fact that it can be equipped on any weapon, and it provides its effect not only to you, but to everyone in your party. This helps in scenarios where you can't afford to take out a hunting horn just for a stat boost.
Cheer grants a speed up to all allies, and only costs 15 stamina to use. It's simple, but it can be a great extra skill if you have an extra decoration slot that needs filling.
Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection – Best Great Swords
What's better than a sword? An even bigger sword.
Absolute Stealth – Any weapon
One of the hardest things to manage in stories is pacing. It also determines when it's your turn and your general ability to dodge, though this is never guaranteed. It is dangerous when you are not prepared as even a single hit can defeat you completely.
And that's what makes Absolute Steal such a gem. Not only can you equip it to any weapon, but it will always take priority when used, meaning you're guaranteed to dodge any attack the turn you use it. It does cost 50 Stamina though, so make sure you only use it when necessary.
Striking Secret – Hammer
Each weapon has some unique effect that helps it stand out from the others, and for the hammer, it's quite simple but very effective. Every attack, including regular ones, can damage the Wyvernsoul gauge.
This is already a good method when stamina is low, but Striking Secret makes it even more effective. This is a direct increase in the amount of damage you deal with regular attacks. Note that this bonus does not apply to other skills.
Charge Burst – Great Sword
The main cycle of Grate is to charge up to gain more power and gain access to more powerful skills, and then spend that power on what the skill says.
Charge Burst makes the final release even stronger. Along with this, you gain an attack up when you use a charge, with the degree of gain relative to the level of decoration. You will hit like a truck.
Battle Ready – Bow
Bows are very versatile in how they are used, and a variety of coatings allow you to use them in many different scenarios with a single weapon. And the Battle Ready decorations make them even better.
With this, your default coatings will be applied randomly when the battle starts, and will already have a charge level, even more so at higher levels.
Blast – Hunting Horn
Poaching is a horn crime and supports all in one. This makes it difficult to use a weapon for both at once, but at least allows you to build up buffs while taking down an enemy.
Blast Melody exists outside of the system, but is such a useful skill. It only costs 15 Stamina to use, Wyvernsoul deals heavy damage to every enemy, and has a chance to inflict Stun. It is very good.
Rotating Meteor – Hammer
Another hammer skill, but one of the benefits of many of this weapon's skills is that they deplete various meters, be it HP, Wyvernsoul, or Monster Parts.
Spinning Meteor is one of the best in this regard. While you have to accept low Wyvernsoul damage, it still deals a lot of HP damage, and a frankly ridiculous degree of damage, even if you're not using the most effective weapon type on it.
Dexterous hands – the bow
Another bow decoration, Deft Hands, makes the bow more effective at what it already does. As your charge gauge increases, so does the strength of your equipped coating.
With Deft Hands, you can easily change coatings while gaining an extra charge level, and with a higher level of this decoration there's also a chance to get another, potentially giving you three charge levels in one.
Counter Boost – Long Sword
A longsword is a weapon that focuses on gauge construction, albeit in a slightly different way. After filling up the Spirit Gauge, you can perform the Stance Skill, which places you in a special sheath, unlocking automatic counters and other unique skills.
The counter boost directly improves the special man. You take less damage, and more deals from your automatic follow-ups. And as the decoration grows in power, so do the bonuses it provides.
Any DRG or WYV decoration
Throughout the game, you'll get decorations that are skills you already have but have some extra letters next to them, like ATK or TLNT. It changes skill values slightly to deal more damage, save stamina, and so on.
Later, after completely defeating Invasive Monsters, you can get DRG and WYV versions of some Skills. Both of these are direct upgrades to the original skills, but still cost the same amount of stamina.

Mutations only make you stronger, apparently.
