I replayed these divisive PS4 games, and I finally got it

Before long, I realized I missed mine PS4. With the PS5 now serving as my main gaming console, my previous-gen system was gathering dust in the basement. As much as I've loved the last several years of PS5 gaming, some say I need to go back to simpler times, before SSDs and performance mods.

Good and bad 2 out of ps4 games that never get released

Big PS4 games that didn't release recently

These games had immense potential in the PS4 era that deserve to be remembered, but certainly won't (if ever) be released on old-gen.

However, in doing so, I decided to replay some old games that I may have misjudged for better or worse. These next games were all divisive releases, and when I first played them, I held firm to my opinion. However, in revisiting them, I have come to understand another perspective. It hasn't always completely changed my mind (although it did in some cases), but I can see why people still can't completely agree on these topics.

Preliminary opinion

What has changed?

Order: 1886

I didn't like it

The back half of this game is incredible.

The Last Guardian

I loved it

Trico can be a little annoying at times.

days passed

I didn't like it

The story has a ton of heart.

days passed

I don't like it, but it has more heart than I realized

i played days passed At launch, and I found it very impressive. I couldn't stand its protagonist, Deacon St. John. I can't stand any of its characters, really: Deacon, Boozer, Lisa, Schizo, even Sarah, and she's barely in the game. I put it down, but in the years that followed, I heard nothing but good things about this game, especially its story. I heard so many good things, in fact, that I knew I had to try it again sometime.

Well, it turns out, the fans were right. While the story comes across as almost stupidly macho in the early going, as you progress, it reveals its beating heart, and imagine my surprise when I realized that the heart is its characters. In the end, I was completely on Deacon's side. I felt it in my soul when Boozer was in danger. And I believed it when Deacon talked about how much he missed Sarah. The world building outside of those more personal stories is also great. days passed It does some lovely things with the zombie formula that makes me disappointed in the lack of a sequel.

Death Stranding

I liked it, but the first half of the game is a serious drag

It took me about a year since its launch, but when I finally got around to playing it death lingers, I loved it. Sure, I understand why it was divisive. It's one of the weirdest games, but for me, it was a great, meditative experience unlike anything I've seen before. I loved it so much that even after playing the sequel last summer, I maintained that the first game was my favorite of the two.

Death Stranding featured

5 Things We Love About Sam Bridges (And 5 Things We Can't Stand About Him)

Sam Bridges is the main character in Death Stranding. While there are many reasons to love the guy, there are also reasons to hate him.

Then, the credits roll after a few months death stranding 2, I was itching to deliver some packages, so I booted Death Stranding again Look, it's still a fantastic game in my mind, and one of the most creative uses of the medium. Having said that, basically for the first half of the game, I was really, really bored. It is still attention, but after the game death stranding 2, I realized how slow progress is in the first game. It wasn't until I got to Hartmann and started building a zip line network in the mountains that I realized it was truly unmatched. Death Stranding Zen state of mind, and that was within about 20 hours.

The Talos Principle

I liked it, but endless philosophical lessons are exhausting

A similar incident has also occurred The Talos Principle. I finished The Talos Principle 2 At the end of last year and wanted its best puzzle design, so I went back to the first game; Or rather, I decided to try a remake of it, The Talos Principle: The Renaissance. The puzzle side of things is still great, and the updated visuals make a big difference compared to the “UE4 default assets” look of the original.

Who is that character?

Easy (7.5 seconds) Medium (5.0 seconds) Hard (2.5 seconds) Permadeath (2.5 seconds)

However, after playing the sequel's intense, fully voice-acted, and surprisingly cinematic story, my patience wore thin with the first game's story pieced together via hundreds of chat room logs and emails shared among a group of philosophical robots. The story wasn't the best part of the original game anyway, but you need to be somewhat engaged in it to progress, and even those short instances absolutely kill the pacing.

Order: 1886

I don't like it, but in the end, I just want more

I admit, I hardly gave Order: 1886 chance in the first go-round. I think I made it halfway through the second level before putting it down. I've never been won over by graphics alone, and this seemed to be all the game had to offer me. The shooting was mediocre, the enemy types were unremarkable, and it still focused heavily on using quicktime events to add “gameplay” to its cutscenes. After 2014's stacked release schedule, games like The Witcher 3 On the horizon in May 2015, order Didn't do enough to earn my time.

After returning to it when I could give it more time, I realized that I am the meme of the miner who stops mining before finding a diamond property. I can't express how good the back half is Order: 1886 is Maybe I'm older now and have more patience for things, or my tastes have changed, but me loved it The short time I had with this game. My only complaint is that it's too short, and we never got a sequel. I would play Order: 1891 (rumored title for planned sequel) in a heartbeat.

Final Fantasy 15

I liked it, but the combat is too simple

Final Fantasy 15 was the first final fantasy The game I played in the beginning. I got caught up in the wave of hype leading up to its release, and I couldn't resist. And honestly, I had a great time. Visually, narratively, and just in pure vibes, it's great final fantasy the game The main friend quartet is made up of great characters that I loved spending time with, and Noctis' car, the Regalia, is one of my favorite open-world traversal mechanics.

Needless to say, I was so surprised when I went back for a second playthrough that I couldn't even get through it. All those previous statements still stand, but the fight is really slow. The summons are awesome the first time you see them, but when I have to watch the same long cutscene every time, it gets old. It's even worse when the summons you can use are dictated by the terrain you're in, making it hard to try some of them when you're seeing others all the time. Standard combat wasn't very good. I found myself completing entire battles by holding the circle and pointing in one direction. I thought Dragon Age: Exploration “Hold R2 to win” was the game, but Final Fantasy 15 A more serious criminal.

DmC: Devil May Cry

I don't like it, but taken on its own terms, it's a blast

As a huge fan of the original cried the devil Trilogy (and to a lesser extent Devil May Cry 4), Like probably many of you, I was angry about what Ninja Theory did to my boy Dante. DmC: Devil May Cry. He looks like the lead singer of Simple Plan, not like the ghost-hunting badass I grew up with. His face was all wrong, he spoke like he was in the MCU, and dmc, Despite all its fundamental changes, it effectively retells the story of the first game, so it's not even interesting in that respect.

What made me come back and play again? I don't have an answer for that, but I'm really glad I did. Now I have played Devil May Cry 5, That existential fear DmC Could represent the future of the franchise. As a standalone game in the franchise — a flight of fancy, you might say — it's a blast. The combat is great, and the last few weapons you get are also really cool for the series. The same goes for the bosses, which are really well designed. A standout is Bob Barbas, a monster who looks like a giant pixelated face made out of a TV screen. Ninja Theory really knows how to make a solid action game, and that's true here as well.

The Last Guardian

I liked it, but Trico is a huge pain

I waited a long time The Last Guardian. As an avid fan of both Ico and shadow of the colossus, Another game from Team Ico was like my early adult version Silksong: It looked amazing, it was exactly what I wanted, and for years it seemed like it would never happenbe released When December 2016 rolled around and I suddenly had the game in my hands, I was overjoyed. I walked in with a big smile on my face and left with tears in my eyes, which is how a Team Ico game should feel.

I always had it in my mind that Trico, the giant creature accompanying the little boy hero, was designed to behave like a real animal and in many ways like a pet. I love my pets, and because of that, I was willing to keep Trico with whatever “coaxing” he needed to do what I wanted, be it jumping, moving to a certain location or interacting with an object. That said, after replaying it, I totally understand why it would be annoying for some players. Pets can be annoying, after all. They are living beings with their own agency, so they don't follow orders when you push a button, so to speak. It's one thing if that behavior results in shoe chewing, but it's another when it directly hinders your progress in the game you're trying to enjoy. i still love last parent, But I understand why others might not.

Knack 2

I don't like it, but Knack is just flat-out awesome

I think Sony really believed they were doing something good with Knack. He was their new mascot, a Mario or Sonic equivalent that could symbolize PlayStation beyond the games he appeared in. That obviously didn't pan out. Knack, however, briefly became a meme, and that convinced me to give it a try Knack 2. I laughed at it, ignored it for a bit, and never played it again.

it turns out, Knack 2 It's awesome. The first game itself was clearly uncertain, however Knack 2 Really know what it is, and it's fun. Knack has a skill tree, ice powers, a stealth mechanic, and much more. The scenes in Knack's body are really impressive, too. This game is like one Astro Bot The game lost its mind. It throws so many ideas around that you will never feel bored. Knack 2 Not a long game, so all those ideas come at a mile a minute. It also means you don't have to commit a ton of time to trying it out. Knack 2 There's also couch co-op, which is how I've played it, and I think it might be the best way to experience it.
