Nintendo has revealed that things weren't quite what we imagined when we saw Star Fox's legs in that Super Mario Galaxy movie trailer. Fox McCloud will, in fact, be in the Mario Galaxy movie, and although we don't know how important his role will be yet, hungry fans of the Star Fox series are already hoping that the revived character will be treated like Donkey Kong.
DK was a main character in the Super Mario Bros. movies, although, like Star Fox, he's a bit more fringe than Fox, a Mushroom Kingdom-adjacent Nintendo creation. It didn't take long for Fox fans to not only point that out, but also draw comparisons between DK and Fox's Mario movie and start getting excited about what this could mean for Fox.
Donkey Kong got Bananza, so what's Star Fox going to get?
Fans have highlighted that, two years after starring in the original animated Mario movie, DK got his own critically acclaimed 3D platformer, Donkey Kong Bananza. That's why some people, perhaps prematurely, are drawing the same line for Fox, that the revelation of this movie means that eventually, by 2028, we'll be playing a new Star Fox game.
It's not necessarily just Star Fox being in the movie that has led fans to believe that a new Star Fox game could secretly be in the works at Nintendo. Others have highlighted Nintendo's desire to get the word out that Fox Galaxy will be in the movie. Her inclusion could have been kept under wraps, guaranteeing a huge response in theaters around the world when she appeared. Showing him now suggests he has a bigger role in the film, and maybe Nintendo's work with him doesn't begin and end here.
It was also leaked that Fox might appear, so it might just be Nintendo wanting to take back control of the story.
Fox McCloud never looked better
The biggest hook hanging on your Star Fox game hopes, however, seems to be McCloud. Fox looks great in that poster. Different from what he had seen before, but still instantly recognizable. Like DK, Nintendo redesigned the character for his big movie debut. Hopefully, we'll see that redesign appear in the game sometime soon.
It's been a decade since the last Star Fox game. It's hard to believe, but this means the character left the Nintendo Switch, Nintendo's most successful era. There was speculation that Star Fox might have been left behind, but her inclusion in Galaxy Movie proves otherwise, and Super Smash Bros. It gives hope to those who always believed that we could get more games starring Fox McCloud beyond his inclusion in the roster.
