In case you missed it, Fox McCloud is embarking on a comeback tour, and it starts in about five days when The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is released in theaters. Because, in a huge bit of news, it was revealed that after some heavy fan speculation about the appearance, Fox McCloud is indeed part of the cast of the upcoming sequel to the original The Super Mario Bros. movie.
If that wasn't enough of an announcement, Nintendo and Illumination followed it up by revealing that Glenn Powell, who has starred in his fair share of movies involving fighter jets, would be the voice of Fox McCloud.
The Nintendo Switch 2's new Boost Mode finally makes it a console worth buying
Playing in portable mode on the Nintendo Switch 2 has never been better thanks to the new Boost Mode.
It's a big moment for a franchise that has spent many years dormant, and it's not just fans who are pumped for the big screen movie to see the Fox McCloud poster. So are his original creators.
Taking to social media, Argonaut Games, which helped bring the original Star Fox to consoles, was excited to see Fox in all his HD glory as part of a movie poster.
That publicity coincided with a separate post from Dylan Cuthbert, the person Fox largely credits with giving his McCloud nickname.
In other words, it's a full-on celebration.
Star Fox News doesn't stop there, either
Brushing off the revelation that Fox will be making its big screen debut, a Nintendo Insider reports that Star Fox will also be coming to a console near you before the end of the year. Specifically, the first Star Fox adventure in a decade is coming in 2026.
“Star Fox is coming back in the summer of 2026. We're getting a new Star Fox game in the near future,” the insider said. “I'm told it's a classic Star Fox game, [and that] The visuals are supposed to be pretty good, and I hear it has online multiplayer.”
That may explain the revelation. If you're a Fox fan, these last 48 hours or so have been nothing short of a whirlwind of energy.
