All eyes are now on Rockstar for Grand Theft Auto 6. Hoping for a new trailer and fearing another delay, fans, critics and even other developers are watching the studio closely. However, while GTA 6 is arguably the most anticipated game of all time, fans are also hoping for the revival of older IPs like Bully and LA Noire.
Unfortunately, there wasn't even a peep from the studio about these other game series until yesterday's Icon Gaming event in Las Vegas. Among the many panelists was Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnik, who made a good few appearances talking about GTA 6. However, this time he hinted that the devs are reviving another IP called LA Noire.
I wouldn't blame you if you doubted him
As reported by GameFile's Stephen Totillo, Zelnik told Variety interviewer Jenny Maas that the marketing campaign for GTA 6 will begin “soon,” but did not commit to a date. However, it was another question that really surprised everyone. When asked if the studio was looking to make more LA Noire games, he simply replied, “Yes”.
He quickly added, “You never know. The answer is broadly that we are looking to do something in the future with all our intellectual property, but nothing to announce.” He also said that if there is anything to announce, it will come directly from Rockstar, and not from himself.
Rockstar has “a lot of other things going on” besides Grand Theft Auto 6, and I hope that one is LA Noire 2.
I know it's a pipe dream, but it's my pipe dream.
There are a few things to take from this. Strauss' immediate “yes” could be seen as a slip-up, after which he tried to cover up that the studio was looking at several of his past IPs. Or it could just be that Rockstar is already discussing what comes after GTA 6, considering several IPs.
If Rockstar were to revive an old IP, LA Noire seems the most likely. Bully, unfortunately, can still have some negative connotations, which is why it was forced to edit its name Canis Canem. Regardless, it will be a while before we get any information about Rockstar's next game, especially considering how slow things are going with GTA 6.
