Mega Man 2 is made playable on the Collectible Watch

While Doom is usually the game of choice when it comes to running anything on absurd objects, from vape pens to cardboard boxes, it appears to have some competition in the form of iconic “boomer shooter” Mega Man 2 and Digital Clock Company.

That's because My Play Watch, a company dedicated to making fully functional watches for not just classic games, but other activities, has revealed that the Mega Man 2 watch will be the next major release of the collectible targeting the June release.

“Made in collaboration with Capcom, this standalone digital gaming watch transforms a reimagined version of Mega Man 2 using authentic sprites, environments, enemies and music from the original game, into a fast, accessible format designed for wrist-based play,” the site's website comments.

The product, which is available for pre-order through GameStop, retails for $79.99.

Right now, you might be wondering, “How do you play Mega Man 2 on your wrist?”

Well, I'm glad you asked because it's a lot simpler than it sounds.

This is Mega Man 2 simplified

Since it's a wearable watch, the gameplay is simplified where Mega Man moves automatically through each stage. Players then navigate jumps and hazards by touching the clock face. The same goes for firing the Mega Buster, with quick taps as actions spamming the controller.

It promises three game modes, from classic to arcade mode, and beyond being able to run a classic title, it will actually work as a regular watch.

“The watch includes timekeeping and fitness tracking, allowing users to monitor steps, heart rate, and calories throughout the day,” the description notes.

Timekeeping Element has themed wallpapers, character displays and pixel arts.

Apart from doing all that, which is already quite a bit, the watch is also a huge collectible. The GameStop package will also get you two collectible watch bands, a collectible box, a bonus watch band and a themed display stand.

“Featuring bold Mega Man-inspired colors, pixel art visuals and interchangeable bands, the watch is designed to be worn, played with and collected,” the product clarifies.

All in all, this is a pretty neat collectible that definitely bucks the trend of figures, reproductions and art books. This isn't the first watch from My Play Watch either, as the company also has Atari, Space Invaders and Tetris-themed collectibles, all of which offer many of the same features and functions as the Mega Man watch.

Normally, I'd be more concerned with Mega Man being part of another collectible rather than a solo adventure, but considering Dual Override is coming next year, bring on all the collectibles you want, Capcom.
