WASHINGTON: Second-half goals from Argentina strikers Juan Brunetta and Maximiliano Meza helped Mexico's Liga MX beat Major League Soccer 4-1 in the MLS All-Star Game on Wednesday.
Argentinian striker German Bertramé and Moroccan winger Osama Idrissi also scored for the Mexican league elite side in the victory in Columbus, Ohio.
MLS had won both previous All-Star meetings with the Mexican league rivals, drawing 1–1 and winning 3–2 on penalty kicks in 2021 and 2–1 in 2022.
Berterame, a 25-year-old forward, scored a goal in the 16th minute for Mexico's CF Monterrey.
Columbus Crew's Colombian winger Kucho Hernandez equalized for MLS in the 17th minute.
For Liga MX, Idrissi replied in the 41st minute to give his team a 2-1 lead at the half.
Tigres UANL striker reserve Bruneta extended Liga MX's lead in the 68th minute and winger Meza, who came off the bench to start the second half for Monterrey, added another goal in the final margin in the 69th minute.
Inter Miami's Lionel Messi was ruled out of the MLS after suffering a right knee injury during Argentina's win over Colombia in the Copa America final.
Messi, who also missed two MLS games last week, is uncertain of Miami's home game against Puebla on Saturday as Inter begins its second-year defense of the League Cup, a tournament involving MLS and Liga MX clubs, starting on Friday.
