It's the day that ends in “Y,” meaning Mortal Kombat fans are once again wondering if they can play Shaolin Monks on modern hardware, either as a remaster, remake, or as simple as a port. However, that day has yet to come, and the title was absent from last year's Mortal Kombat: Legacy Collection.
It doesn't help, then, that series director Ed Boon is returning to Shaolin Monks once again.
Taking to Twitter, one half of Noob Cybot asked fans if they'd like to see Shaolin Monks or Mortal Kombat 9 (2011) remastered first.
With 1 day and 16 hours left for voting, 21,355 votes have been cast so far. Perhaps most surprising is the fact that the vote total is much closer than one would expect, as the Shaolin Monks chose MK9 by just under 51 percent to 49 percent.

After all the rumors, we now know the fate of Cole Young in Mortal Kombat 2
Cole Young is teased in Mortal Kombat 2 despite leading the first film.
Of course, that could change in the coming hours, but given how well Mortal Kombat 9 has been received, and how it practically saved the franchise, I'd have a hard time believing it would lose in a landslide.
Shaolin monks are on everyone's mind, including the live-action actors of Mortal Kombat
It was only 10 days ago that Max Huang, who plays Kung Lao in the current Mortal Kombat live-action movies, revealed that he wants to see a big screen adaptation of the iconic spin-off.
“Something that I would personally like to explore would be a Shaolin Monks spin-off,” Huang said in an interview. “Ludi (Lin) has talked about it. I've been talking about it. Exploring the origins of those two characters and how they were raised by Bo' Rai Cho and trained by the White Lotus. Yeah, the knowledge of Mortal Kombat is huge.”
It's also not the first time Shaolin Monks has been brought up by Boon, who teased a return in the spin-off in 2022. The year before that, it won the poll for most requested remastered.
As for MK9, it's still active online, and locked to old hardware, so its return would be equally welcome. Still, few things are as popular with MK fans as Shaolin monks.

I watched every James Bond movie this month. Here's one thing the first light needs to get right
James Bond has gone through many iterations in his 70-year history, but one woman remains (relatively) constant.
