The new Lara Croft in Legacy of Atlantis is “for everyone,” says the actor

Playing the heroine in Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis and Tomb Raider: Catalyst, Alix Wilton-Regan is our new Lara Croft. As we've seen in the trailers, this is a very different version of the character than we've had in recent games, returning to the snark and confidence of his 1990s self.

Speaking with IGN, Wilton-Regan explains how she created this version of Lara. When asked to describe her in one word, she says that Lara is “unapologetic”, and that Lara's confidence is felt by early players, no matter who they are.

The new Lara Croft is for everyone, says Alix Wilton-Regan

Wilton-Regan explains why she chose this word to describe Lara and what it means to her.

“It was me and my girls talking around New Years, and some people came up with 'Apologetic,'” she says. “And then I did this interview, and the guys at Amazon asked me, what's the word for Lara? On the spot, I just went, 'Apologetic.'

“She's completely confident in herself, in her abilities, in her brain, in her body, in her existence. She just doesn't question herself. And I think, especially as women, we spend a lot of time questioning ourselves. She doesn't.”

Wilton-Regan says it's the women's confidence going into the players, no matter who they are. “One of the best [pieces of] The feedback we get from people playing this game and the demo is that men are gaining this confidence. This kind of Lara Croft charisma and sparkle,” she shares. “It's not just for women. Those are the girls. This is it guys. It's gay.”

Happy birthday to the most important game in modern Tomb Raider history

As Tomb Raider looks to reinvent itself, it should look to past successes.

True, Lara's fanbase has historically been one for girls, boys, and gays. Boys can be seen as her more obvious audience, her history as the first (if not the The First) video game pin-ups. But many women resonated with her confidence and wit whenever. He also has a huge Following LGBTQ+. From what I've seen on social media, every Sefik gamer is raving about Lara right now.

Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis launches on February 12, 2027.
