Rejoice! Pokemon GO has revived its best activities

Pokemon Go has announced the return of Spotlight Hour starting in June. Since its inception in 2016, Pokemon Go Developer Niantic has made several changes to the game, some of which have been more welcomed than others. Mobile games often struggle to stay alive and relevant for more than a few years, however Pokemon Go A decade after its inception, it continues to thrive. There were some tumultuous moments during that 10-year period, as players often clashed with the developers over the game's direction.

Niantic's repeated attempts to preserve the game and move things in a positive direction don't always go over well with the game. That can be frustrating for players, but the constant tinkering is usually to keep things from getting stale. Mega Mewtwo Raids are coming to Pokemon GO, but they include a new mechanic that may cause some confusion among players.

  • July 2 – Pidgey (2x XP for Evoving a Pokemon)

  • July 16 – Jubat (2x XP on catches)

  • July 23 – Eevee (2x Candy in Catches)

  • July 30 – Bidoof (2x Candy in Transfer)

Spotlight hours were offered weekly, before the feature was temporarily discontinued in March. Pokemon Go Spotlight hours were brought back in April, but only as part of a program where they were held daily, and lacked bonuses. Niantic is restoring Spotlight hours to their former glory, with weekly events starting June 18th from 6pm to 7pm local time. It also means that Spotlight hours will move to Thursdays instead of the traditional Tuesdays. Bonuses will also make a comeback.

Niantic hasn't offered an explanation for why Spotlight Hour is taking so long to return, but fans seem pretty happy already. Bonuses can be a big deal for some players, especially for those who are waiting to transfer Pokemon when there is an opportunity to get bonus candy. In all of the Spotlight Hour events announced for this summer, players can encounter shiny versions of the respective Pokemon. Shiny Crobat's unique color is worth looking for, so players may want to put in some effort to find Shiny Jubot during its spotlight hours.

These spotlight hours should also help fill a busy summer Pokemon Go. Frigibax will star in the Community Day event on June 20th, while Skarmory Super Mega Raid Day takes place on June 27th. The biggest event of the summer is Pokemon GO Fest, and players can look forward to the worldwide celebration on July 11 and 12. In addition to many other festivities during those two days, Mega Mewtlywo and Y will be available at the finale.

The return of Spotlight Hour is at least some proof that Niantic listens Pokemon Go players. While the company doesn't always bow to fan demands, it seems to make efforts to do so when possible. It remains to be seen if the Spotlight Hours will appear consistently in the game that has been announced, so players will have to wait and see what August brings.
