The Ultra Instinct Sign, also known as the Ultra Instinct Omen, is an imperfect version of Ultra Instinct that Goku first triggers when fighting Jiren in the Tournament of Power. How Goku unlocks the Ultra Instinct sign varies between Dragon Ball Super Anime and manga by Toyotaro. In the anime, Jiren deflects Goku's Spirit Bomb back at him, triggering the life-or-death awakening of the Ultra Instinct sign. In the manga, Master Roshi talks Goku through his past teachings while showing a pseudo version of Ultra Instinct, teaching Goku how to tap into the form.

While the Ultra Instinct sign gives Goku all the autonomous movement that is compatible with Ultra Instinct, it doesn't come with nearly as much of a power boost. In fact, the Dragon Ball Super The anime makes it clear that Goku did not harm Jiren in the Ultra Instinct Sign. At its core, the sign is merely a bridge to the actual Ultra Instinct transformation, and an obstacle for Goku to overcome on his way to perfecting his form.

The regular version of Ultra Instinct offers great power, but is difficult to control

At the end of the Tournament of Power, Goku finally manages to evolve the Ultra Instinct Sign into a regular version of Ultra Instinct. Unlike Ultra Instinct Sign, which keeps Goku's hair black, Ultra Instinct changes the weight of Goku's hair. On top of this, Ultra Instinct improves Goku's reaction time, allowing him to move faster to more efficiently dodge and counter his opponent's moves. Not only that, Goku gets a significant power boost from Ultra Instinct.

Unfortunately, Ultra Instinct's biggest drawback is that it's hard to stay active. Perfect Ultra Instinct briefly made Goku the strongest mortal in the multiverse

going on Dragon Ball Super: Galactic PatrolGoku's biggest challenge is mastering Ultra Instinct. Despite the fact that Goku uses the white-haired form of Ultra Instinct at the end of the Tournament of Power, his mastery of the transformation is not complete. The Moro Saga devotes much time to Goku training the control of Ultra Instinct with his angel attendant Merus, eventually unlocking Perfect Ultra Instinct in the final battle with Moro.

Perfected Ultra Instinct is a completely enhanced version of Ultra Instinct that gives Goku massive strength, speed and defense boosts. Moro breaks his arm trying to punch Goku. Perfected Ultra Instinct Goku's power level is so high, he has enough energy to easily defeat Moro Seven-Three, give him the Senju Bean, and fight Ultra Instinct Moro on equal footing. PUI allows Goku to astral project his Ki into the Spirit Avatar, allowing him to easily defeat his opponents with follow-up attacks.

Super Saiyan God True Ultra Instinct Stacks on top of Goku's weakest god form UI

During Granolah the Survivor Saga, Goku learns how to use Ultra Instinct without being in the right state of mind. This version of Ultra Instinct is called True Ultra Instinct, which allows Goku to take advantage of Ultra Instinct's unique buffs while retaining his full fighting spirit. True Ultra Instinct allows Goku to stack his Super Saiyan forms on top of the Angel technique, for a massive power boost.

Once Granolah defeats Goku in their battle, he activates the Super Saiyan God while using True Ultra Instinct. Super Saiyan God True Ultra Instinct gives Goku a godly power boost and enough speed to dodge Granolah's deadliest techniques. Unfortunately, Granolah's desire for the Dragon Balls made him so strong that even combining the Super Saiyan God with Ultra Instinct wasn't enough to give Goku a complete edge over him in battle.

Super Saiyan Blue True Ultra Instinct combines pure power with perfect reflexes

Once Goku realizes that Super Saiyan God will not be enough against Granolah, he activates Super Saiyan Blue and puts it on top of True Ultra Instinct. Super Saiyan Blue True Ultra Instinct is a perfect blend of the strongest Super Saiyan God form with all the benefits of Ultra Instinct. Goku can easily keep up with Granolah by combining both transformations, allowing him to deal massive damage and reflexively dodge almost any attack.

Super Saiyan Blue True Ultra Instinct follows the same principles as Super Saiyan God True Ultra Instinct, the only differences being Goku's hair color and how much power he gains when stacking the god form on top of TUI. Super Saiyan Blue True Ultra Instinct isn't nearly as useful as a proper version of Ultra Instinct, considering Granolah can kill Goku, but the form gives Goku enough durability to survive hits that would otherwise kill him.

True Ultra Instinct allows Goku to use the power of UI without a calm heart

After unlocking True Ultra Instinct in Granolah the Survivor Saga, Goku dedicates a large portion of the arc to realizing the best way to use his new version of Ultra Instinct. At first, he tries to stack his Super Saiyan God forms on top of True Ultra Instinct to mixed results against Granolah. It is not until the end of the arc, where Goku fights Gas, that he finally begins to use the full power of True Ultra Instinct as its basis.

True Ultra Instinct is similar to Ultra Instinct Sign, but grants Goku greater strength than Perfected Ultra Instinct, while allowing him to use most of the form's reflex-based abilities. By the end of the saga, True Ultra Instinct is almost on par with Ultra Ego Vegeta power-wise, and serves as Goku's main form. The main thing that separates True Ultra Instinct from other versions of the UI is that Goku doesn't require a clear heart or mind to activate, giving him greater control of Ultra Instinct at the cost of his reflexes not being as sharp.

Goku has unlocked True Perfect Ultra Instinct in Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero

Although the transformation is never mentioned as such, it is clear that Goku is mixing True Ultra Instinct and Perfect Ultra Instinct together. Dragon Ball Super Super Hero Saga sequel to the manga. in Dragon Ball Super Chapters 102 and 103, Gohan Beast battles Perfected Ultra Instinct Goku. At the end of their fight Dragon Ball Super 103, Gohan Beast hits Goku so hard, he snaps out of Perfect Ultra Instinct.

Notably, Goku triggers Perfect Ultra Instinct seconds immediately after being de-powered. Goku's heart is now essentially calm, nor is his mind clear – he's just activating Perfect Ultra Instinct like any other transformation. This proves that, following Granolah the Survivor Saga, Goku continued to master True Ultra Instinct, even as Perfected Ultra Instinct became the primary version of his form again. With his mastery of True Ultra Instinct and Perfected Ultra Instinct, Goku can now use the strongest form of Ultra Instinct whenever he wants to.
