Received a temporary ban from popular streamer ExtraEmily Twitch The content creator nearly crashed his car after an on-stream incident. The fan-favorite Twitch creator's infraction violated the site's policies regarding distracted driving while on-stream.
The Amazon-owned streaming platform has expanded far beyond its roots, with many streamers documenting their daily lives on the site. Many of Twitch's biggest talents live stream everything from traveling on vacation to smaller streams like going for coffee or shopping. Many top Twitch talents have embraced the platform's “IRL” category as a way to bring fans more into their lives, with some even driving or DoorDash streaming themselves. Now, ExtraEmily is in trouble with Twitch moderation after a near-crash incident during a Twitch stream.

Twitch releases official statement on ad controversy
Twitch shares an official response to the controversy surrounding changes to ads on the Amazon-owned streaming platform.
ExtraEmily officially received a temporary suspension from Twitch after an on-stream incident on June 28. During the stream, she was driving her car and took her eyes off the road, looking at her phone to respond to Twitch chat while driving. As a result of the distracted driving, he collided with a Mazda SUV coming from the opposite direction, causing Streamer to collide with another vehicle. Neither vehicle was damaged as a result of the near-miss, but Xtraemily was given a 24-hour suspension from Twitch following the incident. Extraemily's ban from Twitch was lifted, and she was allowed to return to streaming.

ExtraEmily's incident sparked controversy among the Twitch community for the light sentence the streamer received. Despite being in direct violation of Twitch's policies, Emily only received a 24-hour ban from the platform, only to be allowed back the next day. The incident has brought up the issue of whether driving streams should be allowed on the platform, with the act of livestreaming and the potential for users to distract themselves by talking in chat causing major security concerns. The streamer shared that she turned off her Tesla Autopilot shortly before the incident, normally driving with the feature on.
The new incident isn't the first time ExtraEmily has found itself in hot water while driving on-stream. ExtraEmily was caught running a red light during a previous stream, not seeming to slow down at all before flying through a stop signal. Many fans at the time called his actions potentially dangerous to other drivers on the road and called for Twitch to take disciplinary action as a result. The streamer was also involved in an accident while streaming in 2023, although she was not at fault for that collision.
ExtraEmily's Twitch suspension follows further efforts to strengthen the platform's moderation policies throughout 2026. Twitch rolled out a new ban system in 2026, apparently creating a different ban system for chat and live streaming. The platform now splits its punishments between restricting offending users' ability to speak in chat and restricting their ability to stream on Twitch. Some more serious violations of the platform's policies may result in a ban from both chatting and livestreaming, depending on the severity of the abuse. Fans can only hope that ExtraEmily learns from her most recent ban and prioritizes safe driving over chat.
