10 Games Seeing New Interest Due to Recent Gaming News

With how loaded the launch schedule is this year, it's not hard to see why some players are focusing their attention on the hottest, newest, trendiest games, but there are still plenty of us here who are spending time revisiting a handful of classics this year!

There are many reasons we think these games are popular once again, but as for why fans are going back to these classic video games, we're totally on board! There's always more to enjoy with a return visit to an old favorite, no matter what!

god of war

With the huge rise in retro gaming coupled with the controversial pending changes to how we get our games on PlayStation, this particular series has seen quite a resurgence in popularity of late. Whether you're back with the original series on your PS2 or running with the guys on the latter, there's plenty of replay value in God of War.

We imagine this increase may come from the announcement of 2026's God of War: Laufey, an upcoming title that sees Atreus' mother Laufey as she navigates the underworld of the gods in a game that coincides with the events of the 2018 title. It will begin sometime in 2027, leaving you plenty of time to go back and enjoy the original.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

Whether you're craving a dark journey across the continent, trying to get one of the game's other endings, or just fantasizing about a good game of GWENT, there are plenty of reasons why you should be playing through The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.

We're still waiting for the fifth and final season of the game's live-action Netflix adaptation, but while we're at it, there's plenty to fall back on on the continent, especially if you haven't gotten to enjoy any of the DLC packs for the hit 2015 title.

What started in 2015 with a small indie game about a kid who falls underground and must return to the surface in classic RPG style has become one of the most beloved titles in its genre. There are a few ways to experience the story of Undertale, but no matter how you choose, we definitely recommend you.

We don't really believe there's a wrong time to start playing the Final Fantasy series, nor do we believe there's really a wrong entry in it to play as your first, but we've seen a lot of growth in popularity for older titles in the series lately.

Final Fantasy 7 is an easy choice as a favorite in this behemoth JRPG series, and with a few different ways to experience Cloud Strife's story these days, there's never been an easier time to start playing. With the news that Final Fantasy 7 will launch in 2027, players are taking time to refresh their memories of the previous games.

Escape the backrooms

After spending a few years in Early Access, Escape the Backrooms officially launched last fall to great acclaim, giving fans of the niche YouTube horror series The Backrooms a chance to escape themselves. Liminal Space Horror saw huge popularity while in early access, so the full release was well received.

Due to the popularity of the box-office hit adaptation on the silver screen, with The Backrooms breaking box office records in its theatrical run, many people are returning to watch it again.
