Meccha Chameleon is one of the biggest surprises of 2026. Seemingly out of nowhere, the game sold seven million faster than Resident Evil Requiem and Crimson Desert, and now easily outsells Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater, Donkey Kong Bananza, and Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2.
While this new breakthrough has almost certainly been welcomed by the game's two-man development team, it hasn't been without its problems. As it recently surfaced, producer Lemorion has warned fans that any merchandise sold online is illegal.
Mecha Chameleon has already received knock-off merchandise, warns the creator
In a new post on social media, Mecha Chameleon's creator, Lemonrian, warned fans about the arrival of knock-off merchandise.
“Currently official goods are not being sold domestically or internationally,” they said. “Any items sold online now are all unofficial products.” A cursory Google search shows that plushies, T-shirts, and paintable figures are already being sold at various storefronts, including Amazon.
Business casual isn't the only thing plaguing the team. “Furthermore, on all social media platforms, any accounts with 'Meccha Chameleon' in their name are all unofficial, so please do not post any sponsorship or similar offers,” Lemorean warned. It's a sad state of affairs when Chancers try to capitalize on the success of others, especially a small indie team like this one.
Unfortunately, this is a fairly common occurrence, and we've seen the effect on games both big and small this past year. Arguably, the biggest indie title of 2025 was Table 1. Immediately after release, the game received a “chilling atmospheric horror” mobile rip-off. The same happened after the launch of Silent Hill F. Things were taken a step further with Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, when that game received an adult knock-off called “H*rny Kingdom: C*m Delivery”.
Despite the minor setback, the Meccha Chameleon is still in a fantastic position. It currently has almost 55,000 reviews on Steam, with a very positive rating, and its latest map just launched. A map set in Egypt, Osaka joins the post-launch addition, bringing the total to six.
