When we first saw the announcement of God of War Laufey, there was a pretty remarkable mix of reactions online. You had people understandably excited about the new Gods of War game, who were confused by the existence of a giant green cube of jelly voiced by Jack Quaid, and you had incomprehensible reactions from normal people who get angry when any woman is in a video game.
Many sexist and abusive comments cropped up online, as well as deeply weird AI-generated videos of protagonist Faye doing dishes or doing laundry. There aren't many good times to be on social media, but the aftermath of God of War Laufey's announcement certainly wasn't one of the best.
Deborah Anne Woll isn't bothered by God Laufe haters
With so much attention on Faye, and therefore actor Deborah Anne Woll, there was the potential for her to be slightly affected by the visceral reactions online, as has been the case with other actors of female leads in the past. Thankfully, Woll has taken the reactions in her stride, explaining to fans at Florida SuperCon (thanks GamesRadar) that she was “completely unfazed” by them.
“I mean, really, I thought I'd be so impressed with it,” Wall told TikTok user Quinnphobic. “One, I'm not on social media, so that helps. And two, I don't know, I feel totally awkward because I know it's good. Like, it's not your cup of tea, but in no universe is it bad.”
You can't argue that not being on social media definitely helps when it comes to avoiding most of the bullshit, although I'm sure it managed to annoy in some way. Thankfully, Woll doesn't seem to mind it too much, leaving everyone who decides not to try what will likely be Santa Monica's next great game to stew in their own ugliness.
