Boruto sets up the Ultimate Sage Mode user in the series

Sage mode is one of the most sought after powers in the whole Naruto suffrage From the moment it was introduced, there has always been someone trying to learn it and use the power for further ambitions. In Naruto, the first person to show the incredible power of Sage Mode was none other than Jiraiya.

Since then, many other characters have tried to learn Sage Mode for themselves, but only a few of them have succeeded. One of the most surprising users of Sage Mode was Mitsuki, which was introduced in 2012 Boruto: Naruto Next Generation.

Mitsuki mastered Snake Sage Mode

Mitsuki is one of the many characters introduced in Boruto: Naruto Next Generation. Unlike most young ninja, Mitsuki was created by Orochimaru using his own DNA. The latter used it as a test subject for a long time until he was satisfied with the results. Following his success, Orochimaru accepts Mitsuki's wish to go to the Hidden Leaf and study at the academy. During his time at the academy, Mitsuki takes a deep interest in Boruto and decides to stay by his side to see how things unfold. Orochimaru was also eager to monitor the progress of his offspring, whom he recognized as having the ability to surpass the Legendary Sannin.

I'm sure it's my will. – Mitsuki

When Mitsuki joined the academy, he was undoubtedly the strongest in the group. Thanks to genetic modifications, Mitsuki was a cut above the rest. He was not only physically stronger, but he was faster and had more endurance. However, his strongest asset was the Snake Sage transformation. When Mitsuki entered Snake Sage transformation, his head grew a horn, and his body emitted cyan chakra. Furthermore, the chakra formed snakes around Mitsuki's body, and they acted as protection against any incoming attacks. It is also notable that these snakes are powerful enough to break Ryu's Iron Sand, which had previously managed to capture Kod.

Mitsuki was able to improve his already powerful sage transformation. Since he was able to use regular Sage Mode, he combined it with Sage Transformation to strengthen his overall physical abilities. However, this combination comes with a fatal flaw. If Mistuki uses it for a long time, he can damage his internal organs. This damage is irreversible, and Mitsuki's own regeneration cannot undo it. The only way to survive is surgery. Over time, Mitsuki has mastered using both powers simultaneously, so he takes much less damage, allowing him to fight longer.

How strong is Mitsuki's Sage Mode compared to the rest?

As previously stated, Mitsuki's Sage Mode is deadly, and can take down stronger fighters with ease, but how does it fare against the other Sage Modes in the franchise? First up is the Todd Sage mod, which has the most familiar users in the story. The first known user of Toad Sage Mode was Jiraiya. A member of the legendary Sannin Rivers summoned himself to Mount Myoboku, where he was taken by the Toads. Despite spending a lot of time learning Sage Mode, Jiraiya was unable to perfect it. Therefore, he was forced to use an incomplete version, but that also had its advantages. For example, the two toads on his shoulders can attack the target with their own special jutsu. Fukasaku and Shima combined their efforts to launch a powerful vocal genjutsu to incapacitate the target. They could free Jiraiya from any genjutsu. However, Jiraiya's version doesn't compare to Mitsuki's. In a fight between the two, Mitsuki would probably win.

Next is Perfect Toad Sage mode. Naruto has only two users of this special transformation, and these are Minato and Naruto. Minato learned the Perfect Toad Sage Mode when he was still alive. However, he had not fully mastered it, so he refrained from using them. However, Naruto had no such problem. He mastered transformation and often relied on battles. Perfect Toad Sage Mode enhances the user's physical abilities and allows them to mold chakra. However, these abilities are nowhere near those provided by Mitsuki's Sage Mode.

Six Path Sage Mode is the strongest Sage Mode in the series. It is powered by the Six Path Chakra, and there is only one known character who can use it, and that is none other than Naruto Uzumaki. The hero received a power-up during the Fourth Great Ninja War, effectively changing the fate of the world forever. Six Path Sage Mode significantly increases the user's strength, speed and endurance. Naruto's sensory abilities are also enhanced to the point where he can detect beings that exist on a completely different plane of existence. He can catapult and fly towards his enemies at great speed. Last but not least, Naruto is able to mold large amounts of chakra, allowing him to fight for long periods of time. It's safe to say that without the power, Naruto wouldn't have been able to fight like Madara, Sasuke, and Kaguya.

Mitsuki needs to be more involved with Boruto

Every Boruto fan would agree that the story introduced very powerful characters that literally changed the way power scaling works. The author shoehorned in a number of otsutsuki, and they were almost all stronger than any threat Naruto faced in the original series. For example, even a nerfed Isshiki Otsutsuki was able to beat Naruto and Sasuke. It's possible that they both would have died if Kurama hadn't sacrificed himself using Baryon Mode.

Given the level of threat, it's almost impossible to include a character like Mitsuki further into the story. Although Mitsuki's sage mode and sage transformation are impressive, they alone will not be enough for her to compete with the behemoths. Additionally, the author seems to have given Mitsuki a darker personality, which deviates from what the ninja was originally supposed to be.

Fans can only hope that Ikemoto finds a way to incorporate Mitsuki into the story without it feeling forced or unnatural. The same goes for other characters in the story. Ikemoto has consistently made the mistake of pushing them aside, which severely limits their role. Because of this, many side characters are wasted, and their chances of making an impact are reduced to almost zero. Naruto and Sasuke have also been completely removed from the spotlight, which is unlikely, and could ultimately hurt the popularity of the series.
