Naruto Home to the most outrageous powers in shonen history. There are Rinnegan, Sharingan, Byakugan, and many others that grant their wielders an absurd power. Considering the sheer number of powers in a story, it's perfectly normal for a writer to leave out a power or two due to time constraints or other reasons.
Unfortunately, one of the abilities sacrificed was Otsutsuki's legendary Tensigan. was presented in Naruto the lastBut instead of being used in other arcs, it was abandoned altogether.
What is Tenseigan, and how can it be awakened?
As previously stated, Tenseigan was introduced in a movie called Naruto: The Last. Most of the movie takes place on the moon, home of Hamura Otsutsuki's descendants. Fans may remember Hamura as Hagoromo's younger twin brother. The two battled for months in hopes of bringing down Kaguya Otsutsuki and freeing the world from her rule. Because of Kaguya's overwhelming power, the brothers had to struggle a lot and dig deep to get results. Once they shut Kaguya down for good, Hamura decides to go to the moon to make sure he'll never run away again. Meanwhile, Hagoromo remained on Earth to begin the Nishu and later became known as the Sage of the Six Paths.
While Naruto mainly focused on Hagoromo and his offspring, Hamura was ignored for almost the entire story. However, this changed in Naruto: The Last, where the villain was none other than Toneri Otsutsuki, a descendant of the legendary Hamura Otsutsuki. Before dying, the latter left a will for his children, but sadly, Toneri misinterpreted it and began working on a way to fulfill it. He learned about Tensigan and how to obtain it. According to sources, a person can only awaken the Tenshigan if they have Hamura Otsutsuki's chakra and the Hyuuga's Byakugan implanted into their eyes. Toneri wasted no time and decided to kidnap Hanabi Hyuga from the hidden leaf. He then stole her eyes and transplanted them into his own cell. By doing so, Toneri fulfilled the conditions necessary to awaken Tensigan. However, he didn't wake Tensigan right away. Instead, she had to wait a few days for the process to complete. Whether the ban applies to everyone remains to be seen.
Tensigan can wipe out entire nations
Toneri may have been in pain for days, but he was happy to make the deal because Tensigan was such a powerful ability. The dojutsu allows its user to enter Tenseigan chakra mode, in which the user's body is covered in cyan chakra. This special ability greatly enhances the user's physical abilities. The user becomes stronger, faster, and more durable. They also receive truth-seeking balls, a unique tool that has offensive as well as defensive functions. Due to their creation, any ordinary person who touches the truth-seeking spheres is instantly turned to dust. Toneri can also compress chakra and then combine it with truth seeking forces to create a massive sword capable of slicing the moon in two.

It's safe to say that with such an absurd level of power, Toneri could wipe the floor with most of Naruto's ninjas. Unfortunately for him, his opponent was none other than Naruto Uzumaki. The hero combined the power of the Nine Tails with the Six Path Sage Mode, and it proved enough to defeat Toneri and save the world from another disaster. After the conclusion of the movie, the Tenseigan disappeared, and to this day, it still hasn't returned. But there is a real possibility that dojutsu could make a comeback.
Ikemoto can bring Tensigan back to Boruto
Boruto: Naruto Next Generation is the perfect place for the return of Tensigan. First of all, it's a dojutsu that's connected to the Otsutsuki clan, and considering that Boruto has a lot of them, it wouldn't be outlandish or unnatural to include a Tensigan in the story. Fans have already seen two new dojutsu in Kokugan and Senrigan, which are Ishiki Otsutsuki and Idaka respectively. Both eye powers are extremely powerful, and they make their users nearly invincible. So, the introduction of Tensigan doesn't ruin the power dynamic set up in the series. Second, there are some characters in the series who could do with a power-up. Someone like Himawari would be a perfect fit. She's already a Hyuuga, and all she needs is Hamura's chakra.
Finally, the introduction of Tensigan will make Toneri and Hamura relevant to the story again. They are both canon characters but have been abused by the writers. However, there is still time to undo the mistakes and give more screen time to the two characters, especially Toneri. The author can connect Toneri's story with other Otsutsuki characters in the story.
Aside from Toneri and Hamura, there are several other characters that would greatly benefit from playing a larger role in the story. Ikemoto has sadly sidelined many older generation characters, including Naruto and Sasuke, both considered mainstays of the series' success. In the first part of Boruto, Ikemoto made several reckless decisions that negatively affected Naruto and Sasuke. He made Naruto lose the Nine Tails in the most grotesque fashion possible, and if that wasn't enough, the author also made sure Sasuke's Rinnegan was destroyed. The two heroes losing their most important powers did not go down well with the audience, especially because it symbolized their hard work and their journey in the Naruto series. It was extremely disrespectful to rob the heroes of their power. If Ikemoto wanted to sideline them, there were better ways to do so.
Other older generation characters don't have the tools to deal with enemies in Boruto, so it's impossible to include them in the story, as they're just thrown away. However, there is nothing stopping Ikemoto from giving them power-ups. At least someone like Konohamaru and Sakura should be more involved. The latter is a member of the legendary Team 7, and to see him in a reduced role is really disturbing. Meanwhile, Konohamaru's case is one of wasted potential. At the beginning of the story, Konohamaru was a Jonin, so fans had high expectations from him. But he was quickly overtaken by his students, so he did not remain relevant for long. However, there is still a chance that Sakura and Konohamaru can be redeemed.
