As one of gaming's oldest mascots, it's fair to say Lara Croft is aging gracefully. Since her debut in 1996, the intrepid explorer has reinvented herself multiple times and is just as relevant today as she was in the 90s. Aspyr recently released remasters of the first three games and is hard at work remastering three more: Tomb Raider: Last Light, Tomb Raider: historyand Tomb Raider: Angel of Darkness. All together, the Tomb Raider 4-6 Remastered Collection is set for release in February 2025.

How Indiana Jones and the Great Circle differs from Tomb Raider, unknown
Game Rant talks to the Indiana Jones and the Great Circle dev, who discusses Tomb Raider and Uncharted's inspirations, but also its differences.
The overall tone of Tomb Raider is much darker than these games
While there is no initial doubt Tomb Raider While the games were challenging experiences, the overall tone of the first trilogy was balanced, with the games appealing to a wide demographic. Tomb Raider: Last Light Lara's legacy, and both marked a noticeably darker turn history and Angel of Darkness That trend continued. Ray explained that this change in tone was ultimately one of the biggest challenges when remaking the second trilogy. he said,
''The most important difference is the tone of these games. Tomb Raider 4-6 marks a shift from the lighter, more adventurous tone of the first three to a darker, more story-driven storytelling. This required a unique approach to the remaster, emphasizing the atmospheric details of the environment and enhancing elements such as light and shadow to immerse players in the darker themes of the story.''
Tomb Raider's level design is still impressive today
Aside from the noticeable change in tone, Ray was also very impressed with how well some of the trilogy's level designs hold up today. Lara Croft is an explorer at heart, so this is important Tomb RaiderThe levels feel appropriately large to drive home the sense of wonder and discovery. final light, history, and Angel of Darkness All managed to achieve this sense of scale, a fact that was not lost on Ray as Aspyr began work on this trilogy. He explained,
''The level design is still incredibly impressive by today's standards. Complex puzzles, exploration-heavy layouts, and a sense of scale remain some of the best in gaming. These elements highlight how forward-thinking the original developers were, creating experiences that continue to engage and challenge players decades later. That's something we worked hard to preserve in the remaster because it's the cornerstone of what makes these games special.''
As well as the first trilogy remasters, Tomb Raider 4-6 Remastered New life should be breathed into titles that have been dormant for some time. It's certainly a good time to be one Tomb Raider the fan Crystal Dynamics is working on a brand new untitled game, Prime Video has a live-action series, and Netflix's Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft has been renewed for a second season.
