The Switch successor was officially announced on January 16 with a two-and-a-half minute trailer. Nintendo's next console looks bigger, more rounded, and generally thinner than its predecessor. It looks like the Nintendo Switch 2 Mario Kart game has seen a big improvement
The newly confirmed Mario Kart game for the Nintendo Switch 2 appears to be a major improvement over its predecessor.
The January 16 announcement trailer confirmed the presence of an extra button on the upcoming console. While an earlier Switch 2 leak was accurate about the shape and location of the new key, the real thing isn't actually labeled with a “C.” Instead, the square button looks almost completely featureless. Because the sources who testified to the presence of the letter “C” were otherwise correct about other aspects of the Switch 2, it is possible that prototypes of the console actually featured a C button, but Nintendo chose to remove that label ahead of the announcement.
A Nintendo Switch 2 leak correctly predicted the lack of a 'C' on the new button
The only source to accurately predict the appearance of the new button is OnLeaks, which shared 360-degree renders of the Switch 2 a week before the console's official announcement. However, even this famous consumer electronics leaker had no idea about the purpose of the home key-exit button.
Although the button's featureless design offers no clue as to what its function might be, someone may have figured it out already. A dataminer who inspected the latest version of the Switch OS recently suggested that the additional button will be used for chat-related functionality. This theory is based on some references to “campus” found in Nintendo's latest firmware. Campus is said to feature both voice and group chat for Nintendo Switch Online members. This discovery led to the possibility that the alleged C button on the Switch 2 prototype stood for “Chat”.
More information about the mysterious button is likely to appear after April 2025. A Switch 2-focused Nintendo Direct is scheduled for April 2, and will be followed by a series of hands-on preview events that Nintendo will host around the world. , giving fans a chance to try the upcoming device early. With the tour continuing until early June 2025, this is the earliest the Switch 2 is expected to release.
