Due to Sony's unexpected and shocking closure of Bluepoint Games, five years after purchasing the studio, one of the main prevailing thoughts was – why was Bluepoint working on anything but a remake of Bloodborne? – A sure hit for a studio in need of one.
As it turns out, Bluepoint actually pitched Sony to remake the FromSoftware title. However, it was rejected, and it wasn't Sony that rejected the pitch.
With Bluepoint Games discontinued, I have officially lost all faith in PlayStation
Bluepoint Games has been discontinued since Sony acquired the studio several years ago.
In a new detailed report from Bloomberg's Jason Schrier, it was revealed that the now-defunct studio tried unsuccessfully to get the Bloodborne remake off the ground in early 2025. According to Shrier, the idea had been considered before and was expected, but ultimately did not go into production.
Bluepoint's second pitch also went nowhere in the end.
“The studio was told the numbers made sense but FromSoftware didn't want it to happen, according to people familiar with the process,” Schreier wrote.
The reporting adds further credence to the theory Shuhei Yoshida, former president of SIE Worldwide Studios for PlayStation, said in an interview last year about the beloved franchise. In particular, that Hidetaka Miyazaki “loved” the franchise but didn't want anyone else to touch it.
“Miyazaki-san really loved Bloodborne and what he created,” Yoshida said. “I think he's interested, but he's so successful, and he's so busy, he can't do it himself, but he doesn't want anyone else to touch it.”
Understanding that element, “the PlayStation team respects his wishes,” added Yoshida. Based on Schreier's reporting, this theory seems to be very close to reality.
Whether Bloodborne will eventually be remade is anyone's guess at this point. Given how busy FromSoftware is as a studio, this is almost certainly not the biggest priority. However, that hasn't stopped the studio from gauging fan interest in all things Bloodborne.
Bloodborne continues to be a huge fan request
As of February 2025, FromSoftware gauged whether fans would like to see more Bloodborne content through a survey conducted during a network test of Elden Ring: Nightreign.
A few months later, it was revealed that Bloodborne was Sony's 10th best-selling title in the US by absolute dollar sales of Sony-published games, highlighting how popular the game is and certainly how well-received a potential remake would be.
All the while, fan efforts to remake the game were unsuccessful, with one producer revealing that they had received a cease and desist letter. Ironically, after Bluepoint closed, Sony asked fans on social media what remake they wanted to see next, though that post, predictably, didn't last long.

Marathon is slow, hard, and full of depth – but who is this game for?
I'm having a great time with the marathon, but have some regrets about the game.
