A direct sequel to the original Dead Rising is reportedly in development

Dead Rising fans, wake up! If new reporting from MP1st is to be believed, it looks like the cult classic zombie action-adventure series is primed to get its first real new entry since 2016. What's more, it will put beloved hero Frank West back in the spotlight.

While there is no direct timeline for when the game could be revealed and released later, Dead Rising Rebirth, currently codenamed “Reck,” is in development from 2023, according to reports. With Frank being the protagonist, the game seems to be a direct sequel to the original Dead Rising released in 2006.

If that wasn't reason enough to celebrate, then the game will reportedly take place in Hollywood, a fitting place for a photographer like Frank.

I wish I could experience Dead Rising again for the first time

Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster is the best way to play Frank West's adventure, but I'll never forget my first time.

If all this is true, then the next Dead Rising could be an all-timer

The Hollywood setting will apparently feature a distraught filmmaker trying to make the “perfect movie.” Psychopaths will be a major part of the game, which the canceled Dead Rising 5 will bring back.

Some of the game's survivors will be cast in the movie, and some well-known characters will appear, including Isabella. The camera will, of course, be part of the title's gameplay, with time limits, another fan-favorite element, also being a central part of things.

In a rather funny and brutal twist, someone Frank saves at the beginning of the game turns out to be the director's assistant, who later turns out to be the main psychopath. That hapless assistant is “tasked with filming everything while a bomb is attached to his body.” Yes!

Unfortunately, MP1st has speculated that the game is too far away, even though it has been in development for a few years. That part makes sense given the timelines of Capcom's other in-development games.

It also makes a lot of sense that, in this yet-to-be-revealed sequel, Capcom will bring Frank back, as the Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster proved to be a hit and helped introduce gamers to Frank, giving Capcom a definite lane to continue things with a familiar protagonist.

After all, as we saw with Onimusha and Resident Evil, it looks like another revival of a lost franchise is on the horizon. Now Mega Man can get the same love. Seriously, Capcom, I beg you.
