of Elbaph arc a piece Saint Emu has focused much attention on the character of Nerona, one of the founding 20 kings and sovereign of the world. With last week's announcement of Emu wanting to visit Warland, Oda finally delivered and revealed the true face of this man. For years, Oda hid Emu's face behind a silhouette, but the Elbaf arc ripped this mask from his face and revealed the true form of the final antagonist of the entire series.

Appreciating the reason behind the sovereign's arrival at Elbaf
One Piece Chapter 1178 saw Emu make a big announcement towards the end. After fighting Nika and Nidhog in Gunko's body, Emu realized that the danger he faced was enough for him to do something personally. Thus, towards the end of the chapter, Emu announces to the five elders that he is going to the battlefield himself.
For the first time in a generation, Emu decided to leave the sacred land of Marizoa and step into the world below, because the plight required him to do so. Had Emu not stepped on Elbaf himself, the Straw Hat Pirates and Giants would have easily defeated him. Now the arrival of Emu tips the scales once again in favor of the World Government and sets the stage for a grand finale with dire consequences for the series' heroes.
Eiichiro Oda finally reveals Imu's true face in chapter 1179
Considering that Emu was set to appear in Elbaf, Oda revealed his face big and full to fans for the first time in eight years. For nearly a decade, Oda had been teasing the mystery of Emu's face. Every time this person appeared in the story, they were covered in silhouette, but One Piece Chapter 1179 did a great job of tearing off this mask and revealing their true faces.
The emu has a special face when it comes to the men of a fragmented world. For one reason or another, Emu's face doesn't look like a typical One Piece character. The facial features are somewhat feminine, and the emu certainly looks very strange. The emu sports white hair, which runs down one side of its face, and has leathery skin, similar to the Lunarion race of a fragmented world.
More than that, Oda also gave fans an accurate look at Emu's true form, as he was revealed to sport giant black wings during his transformation, as well as a pointed tail. Emu's Devil Fruit ability was also revealed by the series' writer, indicating that this is the beginning of the end, not only for the Elbaf arc but for One Piece as a whole.

Breaking Imu's connection to major one-piece races
With Emu making his proper debut in the Elbaf arc, the connections he holds with some of the world's greatest races are pretty clear for all to see. The skinned and white-haired emu draws a very deep connection with the Lunarian race of a fragmented world. In the world of One Piece, not many are known to have tanned skin. In fact, having tan skin and grey-white hair is a prime indicator of someone with lunar blood, and the emu seems to have this connection. This would be fitting because the Moons were once known as gods of the world, and Emu considers herself the one true god of the entire world.
It was all inevitable. I will leave the Holy Land in your hands, Gorosei. – Emu, One Piece Chapter 1179
It is possible that Emu fought against his own people long ago and then rose as one of the founding 20, eventually taking over the entire world. More than that, the emu also sports giant horns, which can be traced back to the ancient demon bloodline. Whether these horns are generated from the Devil Fruit transformation or if they are natural remains to be seen, but if they are indeed natural, Emu may also hold the Ancient Giant bloodline, which further increases his strength.

Gauging the Effects of World Ruler Bleeding on Landfall
An important thing to note is that the emu started bleeding immediately after reaching Elbaf. This means that Emu's body is weakened in some way, and this can be linked to his previous fight with Joy Boy some 800 years ago. In the end, Joy Boy dies, but Emu seems to suffer serious consequences for participating in this battle against Joy Boy.
For some reason, the emu's body has become severely weakened, and it cannot maintain full strength for long. This means that Emu's tenure in the sacred land of Elbaf will be short-lived, and he will use all his powers to quickly end the threat of Nika and Nidhog for good.
One Piece Chapter 1180 will be available to read on Manga Plus on April 19, 2026.
