A lot of what Nintendo has planned for the near future has been leaking lately, and you can now add a new Luigi's Mansion game to that growing list. It's believed that there's a new Luigi's Mansion game coming soon, with at least one amiibo, and that Nintendo has already started putting together a pitch for a spinoff series to get its own movie.
Add Luigi's Mansion 4 to the leaked games Nintendo doesn't want to talk about
All of those details come from Special Nick, a Nintendo leaker with a stellar track record, and the same source from which rumors about a new Star Fox game and an Ocarina of Time remake spread. Nick responded to fears that a Luigi's Mansion movie might mean we might not be getting a game, assuring fans of the series that, so far, it looks like we're getting both.
Nintendo seems to have two more movies lined up after Legend of Zelda, but what are they?
What are those movies going to be? The wilder the guess, the better.
“As far as I know, they are making a new game. It sure has been heavily rumored for a while,” Nick tweeted. It's true, there's been talk of a new Luigi's Mansion for a while, nothing concrete. We still don't have anything concrete, in fact, even more, admittedly more reliable, leaks, including the further revelation from Nick that there's a new Luigi's Mansion amiibo coming soon.
There was a period towards the end of the original Switch's time as Nintendo's flagship console where amiibo seemed to be left behind with the Switch 2. That wasn't the case, and Nintendo is getting tougher than ever on amiibo on Switch 2. Even third-party games, including Resident Evil Requiem, have turned in some of their characters.
The fact that there's an amiibo on the way is a sure sign that Nintendo has some Luigi's Mansion-themed plans. Not only that, it has been a long time since the last entry in the series. Although Luigi's Mansion 2 was remastered for the Switch in 2024, and then the original game was added to NSO's GameCube library last year, there hasn't been a new entry in the series since Luigi's Mansion 3, which turns seven this year.
Nick's Luigi's Mansion updates also included rumors of a movie adaptation for the series. Still in the pitching phase, according to the leaker, but it seems like a logical step for Nintendo films to take if the Mario movies are successful, and they've been very successful.
Charlie Day, the voice behind the movie Luigi, has talked about his desire to star in a Luigi's Mansion movie for years, reiterating that desire when asked during press tours for the recently released Super Mario Galaxy movie. If it's happening, it's a question of what we get first. There's talk of Donkey Kong getting his own movie, which seems even more likely since it was largely lifted from the New Mario film. This is probably what we're getting ahead of the movie, and maybe Luigi's Mansion will be the fourth entry in Nintendo's growing cinematic universe.
