The pilot episode of Re: Zero Season 4 is officially out, and so far, it's a promising start, as the isekai series wastes no time tying up loose ends while setting the stage for its next outing. After the Priestella attack, Natsuki Subaru still bears the responsibility of rescuing many of Rem and Sin Archbishop's victims.
Every new Isekai anime announced for 2026
2026 will be full of otherworldly adventures, as this year is full of isekai anime trying to entertain or amuse viewers.
Despite some speed issues, Re: Zero Season 4 Episode 1 delivers a satisfying episode Much better than expected, exciting the audience to go on another dangerous adventure with Natsuki Subaru in the Isekai world. The previous season was set in Priestella, Re:Zero Season 4 takes the adventure to the sand dunes.
Julius Juculius lost his name
Re:Zero Season 4 tackles Season 3's cliffhanger
Re:Zero Season 4 quickly tackles the cliffhanger from season three, revealing that Julius Juculius has also lost his name to Sin Archbishop of Gluttony. Except for Subaru, no one remembers Julius, much to Subaru's disbelief. Unlike the other victims, Julius retains his consciousness, which makes him an exception. In contrast, Rem is still in a coma.
To help Julius and all the other victims, Anastasia offers to go to the Agrea Sand Dunes, where a sage named Shaula currently resides in the Pleiades Watch Tower. This sage could potentially answer all of their questions, which Subaru and the others agreed to visit as a group.
Reinhard's failed attempt at Plyde's Watch Tower
The Pleiades Watchtower is a mysterious barrier
As of the current Sword Saint, Reinhard van Astria is one of them Zero againThe most powerful characters. Given his solid reputation, he should be strong enough to reach or conquer Plyde's Watch Tower by himself or with an adventuring party. However, being a Sword Saint is pointless, especially since he can't figure out how to break the mysterious barrier protecting the Watchtower.
Based on Reinhard's experience, no matter how long he walks towards the watch tower, he is unable to reach it. When you think you are close, the tower seems to move far away. This is an important obstacle that Subaru must overcome in order to enter the watchtower and meet Shaula.
Subaru confronts Anastasia
Anastasia's true identity is revealed
After Subaru, Beko, Emilia, Julius, and Anastasia begin their journey to the Aguria Sand Dunes, they decide to camp for the night. Subaru is in charge of camp security, while everyone except Anastasia retires for the night. That's when Anastasia talks to Subaru about Ricardo and his hand, convincing Subaru that Anastasia is a fraud in front of him.
Tensions quickly rise between Subaru and Anastasia, especially after Anastasia reveals her true identity as Echidna, an artificial spirit living in the real Anastasia Hoshin's faux muffler. She's different from the Echidna that Subaru knows, so it's no surprise that Subaru immediately calls her Eridna.

Currently, Ariadna controls Anastasia's body with her consent, but for some reason, she cannot return the body to its original owner. This is the main reason why Ariadna comes to the Watchtower with Subaru to solve her body problem. This entire scene is different from the novel, and so is the length of the conversation between the two characters. While the anime did a good job of revealing Anastasia's true identity, the moment feels rushed, losing some of its emotional weight.

Before leaving for the Pleiades Watchtower, Subaru arrives to pick up his sleeping beauty, Rem, at Margrave Mather's domain. He also recruits Meili Portrout, who is now in prison for a long time. In fact, many fans had forgotten about her until she appeared in this episode.
With Meili's ability to manipulate Mabeasts, she can help Subaru and the others reach the Pleides Watch Tower more safely and strategically. Meli is Subaru's former enemy, but she surprisingly agrees to help Subaru without hesitation. Thus, Subaru gains another ally, which Julius likes to tease him about.

Rem fans also get a brief but intimate moment between Subaru and Rem. Subaru promises to save Rem once more, hoping that when she wakes up, she will be the first one, which Rem appreciates.
Garfil reveals his vulnerable side
Before the end of Re:Zero Season 4 Episode 1, Garfiel meets his mother. Along with Mimi, the two spend their time with Riala, who can't help talking about her husband and two children. Suddenly, Garfil breaks down, unable to contain his emotions any longer. He cries like a child longing for his mother, and Riala happily wraps him in her mother's embrace, allowing him to finally let go.
Re: Zero Season 4 Episode 1 Begins Without Action
The first episode of Re: Zero Season 4 Avoids action and prefers to start quietly. There aren't any battles that any of the characters need to fight, but the episode still delivers some powerful moments. That said, Subaru's journey in Re:Zero Season 4 Episode 2 is expected to continue with Meili, Rem, and Emilia and the Anastasia Camp at the Augria Sand Dunes.
